Position Snapshot: The OPWDD youth specialist assistant is primarily responsible for assisting the supervisor in our youth and young adult services for children with disabilities. These services consist of a weekly social skills group, sibling youth group, and summer camps.
Essential Functions:
- Provide ILS training for OPWDD Family Support Social Skill Program, including summer camp and monthly training to Chemung, Steuben ,and Schuyler counties for Learn & Grow (13 under) and Peer Social Groups (14 ).
- Promote events through monthly mailings and collect/maintain RSVP/Registrations for ILS events.
- Complete/assist with supply requests and purchase order forms for activities/events and assist in maintaining records.
- Set up, facilitate, and clean after monthly social skills program Learn and Grown Playgroup for children with disabilities ages 2-10.
- Coordinate training to parents/caregivers on topics such as community resources and support for children with developmental disabilities.
- Assist the OPWDD FSS Coordinator with planning and preparation of groups and activities, and potentially assisting with monthly sib shops.
- Respect and support the self-directed decisions and goals of consumers.
- Participate in the IL Team and related activities and assignments including outreach to the community (adults and children with disabilities, schools, businesses, etc.)
- Provide accurate and timely documentation of activities in AIM’s database and files and provide essential information for completion of agency reports to funders including completion of initial and annual Consumer Service Record (CSR) packets.
- Performs ongoing recruitment via developing relationships to "market" AIM Independent Living Center as an OPWDD service provider.
Experience and Qualifications:
- High School diploma with at least 2 years of comparable, disability-related experience and;
- Computer Literacy – skilled in working with MS Office, and MS Outlook, internet research and;
- Knowledge of systems, organizations, and community-based resources.
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs safely.
