Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Survey Party Chief to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will lead field survey crews, manage day-to-day operations, and ensure that all surveying activities are performed accurately and efficiently. This role requires a strong leader with excellent technical skills and a passion for mentoring others.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Direct and oversee field survey teams in various types of surveys, including boundary, topographic, ALTA/NSPS, and control surveys.
- Ensure all field activities are conducted safely and in compliance with company policies and state regulations.
- Plan and conduct field survey assignments using GPS, total stations, and other surveying instruments.
- Collect, analyze, and interpret survey data for use in engineering and construction projects.
- Maintain accurate and detailed field notes, sketches, and reports.
- Utilize CAD software to process survey data and produce maps and drawings.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and clients to understand project requirements and timelines.
- Communicate progress updates and address any issues or discrepancies promptly.
- Ensure all surveying equipment is properly maintained and calibrated.
- Manage inventory of survey supplies and equipment.
- Mentor and train junior survey staff in surveying techniques and equipment use.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement and professional development within the team.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in surveying, geomatics, civil engineering, or related field preferred.
- Experience with 3D laser scanning and drones preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of land surveying experience.
- At least 2 years in a leadership or supervisory role as a Party Chief.
- Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license preferred or the ability to obtain licensure within one year.
- Proficient in operating GPS receivers, total stations, data collectors, and other surveying equipment.
- Familiarity with CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, ORD) and data processing applications.
- Strong understanding of surveying principles, methods, and legal requirements.
- Excellent leadership and team management abilities.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving capabilities.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and terrains.
