Qualifying Experience:
- Must have an approved and current nationally recognized certification in lifesaving and water rescue methods and skills, as well as basic first aid training, and CPR (both child and adult) training, or obtain certification within 30 days of employment.
- Must have experience which provides a practical knowledge of swimming activities, rules and procedures.
- Skill in the use and maintenance of various pool and safety equipment is desirable.
Responsibilities:
The primary purpose of this position is to observe swimming area to ensure safety of patrons.The primary duties of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Continuously observes swimming area to ensure safety of patrons.
- Ensures the swimming area is open to patrons at scheduled times and only authorized persons are admitted to the area.
- Rescues swimmers in trouble, promptly administers first aid, and calls for medical assistance if and when needed.
- Warns swimmers of unsafe environmental or health conditions, ocean conditions of rough water or hazards, and recommends closing swimming areas until safe conditions prevail.
- When working at pools, may operate water pumps and control chemical additives to ensure pool water meets specified standards.
- Ensures that diving boards are inspected frequently for cracks or loose matting, and that necessary repairs are made.
- May perform other related or incidental duties as assigned for the daily operation of the swimming area to include: cleaning of bath houses, wading pools, main pools, pool decks, beach areas, sunbathing areas, etc.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
