About the Role:
The Air Force Test Center is looking for a Full-Time Flight Chief (NH-0801-04) to work at 412 Test Wing, 412 Test Engineering Group, 773rd Test Squadron, Structures Flight (ENFS) at Edwards Air Force Base.
The primary purpose is to perform as Flight Chief of one of the component flights within the 775 TS Avionics and Armament Integration Squadron or 773 TS Flight Dynamics Squadron. This position serves as supervisor of technical personnel who may be assigned in support of various avionics, weapon integration, performance, structures, reliability/maintainability, flying qualities, subsystems, or human systems integration projects at the 412 TW. Additionally, this position has primary technical review responsibility over related test plans and technical reports and provides expert guidance in the above engineering disciplines. The incumbent also participates in the safety review process.

Location: Edwards, CA (Edwards Air Force Base)
Typical 2025 salary range: $145,180 - $195,200 per year (includes locality)
Telework Information: Up to 20% telework possible (must reside in local area)
Travel Requirements: Up to 25% travel possible
Direct Hire Authority: NO 6-MONTH WAIT! Recently retired and/or retiring from MILITARY service ARE eligible for immediate appointment for AFTC positions. The 180-day waiting period has been waived for AFTC to hire recently retired and/or retiring service members.
- 7 years of experience leading teams in a dynamic flight test environment.
- 10-15 years of flight test experience desired.
- Able to standardize engineering practices through authorship of technical papers, creation of training programs and instruction.
- Expert knowledge of advanced concepts, principles, and techniques across multiple interrelated and integrated technical and test engineering disciplines.
Major Duties:
- The Flight chief manages the experience of the T&E work force through assignments consistent with their career goals, potential, and future needs of the 412 TW and AFTC. Evaluates work performance of subordinates.
- Gives advice, counsel, or instruction to employees on both work and administrative matters. Interviews candidates for positions; recommends appointment, promotion, or reassignment.
- The incumbent will formulate and execute policies related to the technical evaluation of weapons systems and support equipment.
- Comply with higher organization policy and regulations that may be imposed concerning the conduct of all types of air vehicle system test.
- Exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities.
- Plans work to be accomplished by subordinates, sets and adjusts short/long-term priorities, and prepares schedules for completion of work. Assigns work to subordinates based on priorities, selective consideration of the difficulty and requirements of assignments, and the capabilities of employees.

Qualifications/Requirements:
- U.S. Citizenship
- Obtain & maintain Security clearance
- This is a designated Drug Testing Position
- Ability to synthesize concepts, principles, and practices across technical and test engineering disciplines.
- Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate test with a multi-disciplinary team and coordinate with other base, Air Force, and DOD organizations.
- Expert knowledge of DOD acquisition regulations, practices, and procedures.
- Ability to maintain good working relations and to provide technical leadership, mentorship, and training to personnel as well as project management oversight.
