About the Role:
The Air Force Test Center is looking for a Full-Time Test Manager (NH-0861-03) to work at the Arnold Engineering Development Complex (AEDC) 717th Test Squadron at Arnold Air Force Base.
The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a senior professional engineer with systems engineering responsibility in assigned area(s). Considered the technical expert for the organization in general engineering assignments concerning project management of propulsion Test and Evaluation projects. Employee provides technical leadership in planning, analyzing, and evaluating efforts used to define total weapons systems/subsystem requirements, translate requirements into design criteria, evaluate alternative design approaches, and develop system specifications. Work encompasses several phases of the development process in which the employee guides and evaluates the design and development activities of others.

Location: Tullahoma, TN (Arnold Air Force Base)
Typical 2025 salary range: $88,621 - $137,000 per year (includes locality)
Travel Requirements: Up to 25% travel possible

Direct Hire Authority: NO 6-MONTH WAIT! Recently retired and/or retiring from MILITARY service ARE eligible for immediate appointment for AFTC positions. The 180-day waiting period has been waived for AFTC to hire recently retired and/or retiring service members.
- Required to handle and safeguard sensitive and/or classified information in accordance with regulations to reduce potential compromise.
- Position requires a professional engineering degree at the bachelor's level from an ABET accredited institution is required. Advanced degrees are preferred.
- Desired 5 years’ experience in test and evaluation and/or 5 years’ experience in leading teams.
- May be required to work overtime on an unscheduled or emergency basis.
Major Duties:
- Performs professional engineering work involved in the application of advanced theories, concepts, principles, and processes to the acquisition, development, or sustainment of weapon systems, subsystems, and/or support equipment.
- Functions as the organization’s technical specialist in design and development engineering for critical systems and subsystems.
- Performs complex and comprehensive analysis and uses systematic, disciplined, quantifiable approaches to implement, develop, and document projects.
- Serves as a consultant and technical expert to senior subject matter specialists, agency and/or Department of Defense (DoD) officials responsible for broad program operations.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- U.S. Citizenship
- Obtain & maintain Security clearance
- Position requires a professional engineering degree at the bachelor’s level from an ABET accredited institution. Advanced degrees are preferred.
- Knowledge of professional engineering concepts, principles, practices, standards, methods, techniques, materials, and equipment to effectively apply advanced engineering theories, principles, and
- Knowledge of development testing and evaluation sufficient to apply experimental theories and new applications to issues and provide technical advice and direction in support of weapon systems, subsystems, and/or support equipment.
- This position has been designated as a Non-critical Acquisition Position and is covered by the Acquisition Professional Developmental Program (APDP).
- The selectee must meet or be capable of achieving the APDP certification as designated on the position description. This position also requires the employee to engage in acquisition continuous learning activities achieving 80 continuous learning points every 24 months.
