COMBUSTIBLE DUST CONSULTANT :
Airdusco Engineering & Design Services, LLC, located in Memphis, TN, is looking for an experienced Combustible Dust Consultant to identify and assess fire, flash fire, deflagration and explosion hazards associated with a variety of combustible dusts that are generated, conveyed, and stored in various industrial facilities around the United States. The Consultant will recommend mitigation strategies to ensure compliance with relevant safety standards like NFPA and OSHA codes. Airdusco Engineering & Design Services, LLC is a growing specialty engineering and consulting firm focused on helping our clients solve their industrial dust collection needs and providing guidance in understanding and implementing proper equipment and processes to provide an OSHA and NFPA-compliant workplace. We employ consultants who perform dust hazards analyses (DHAs) nationwide to help our clients recognize and mitigate potential hazards from combustible dust. Our client base includes many industry-leading Fortune 500 companies in the food, chemical, plastics, wood, and general manufacturing markets.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES OF A COMBUSTIBLE DUST CONSULTANT :
On-Site Facility Inspections & Risk Assessment :
Perform detailed onsite assessments to observe material handling processes and identify potential combustible dust flash fire, deflagration, and explosion hazards as well as assess existing dust control measures.
Dust Sampling and Testing :
Collect dust samples from various locations within the facility and send them to accredited laboratories for testing to determine their combustibility properties (e.g., Kst, Pmax, MIE, MEC, etc.).
Mitigation Recommendations :
Develop comprehensive plans to mitigate combustible dust explosion risks by addressing the following :
- Ignition sources
- Electrical area classifications
- Unique hazards associated with processes and equipment
- Dust collection system airflow and velocities
- Fire and explosion protection systems and isolation systems
- Combustible dust cleaning frequencies and methods
- Safety and health programs and training
Compliance Review :
Ensure adherence to relevant regulations and industry standards related to combustible dust management (i.e., OSHA, NFPA)
Training and Education :
Provide training to facility personnel on identifying dust hazards, proper dust control practices, and emergency response procedures.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS :
Education :
Bachelor’s Degree required.
Experience :
Minimum of at least three (3) years of experience in an industrial, manufacturing, safety and health consulting, and / or combustible dust process environment
Relevant certifications :
Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), and NFPA Qualified Person
Technical Knowledge :
Deep understanding of the principles of combustion, dust explosion dynamics, and relevant safety standards (ex, NFPA, OSHA, FM)
Industrial Process Knowledge :
Familiarity with various industrial processes and equipment where combustible dust may be present (e.g., food processing, chemical manufacturing, woodworking)
Communication skills :
Effectively communicate findings and recommendations to clients, engineers, and management teams
Problem-Solving Skills :
Develop practical solutions to mitigate dust explosion risks based on site-specific conditions
Technical :
Proficient with Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, and similar applications (e.g., Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams, etc.)
