POSITION: Technical Writer
AISG is hiring a focused, customer oriented Technical writer to join our dynamic team! The Technical Writer will review, write, and/or edit technical documents, including course materials, reports, manuals, presentations, guidelines and other project deliverables to meet contract requirements.
WORK LOCATION
- The Technical Writer will work primarily from home/remote with periodic local commuting to offices and/or training facilities in Norfolk, VA. Additional CONUS travel may be required (up to 20%).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assists the Instructional Developer in ensuring that all course material, technical documents and curricula are developed and maintained according to the style guide and in a consistent format (e.g., font, style, graphics) and are grammatical and comprehensible for students (civilian mariners and active/reserve military personnel) and AISG instructors.
- Establishes style guidelines, templates and standards for texts and graphics that meet business needs.
- Consults relevant information sources and technical documents to obtain background information.
- Develops outlines and drafts for review and approval by technical specialists and project management.
- Utilizes Microsoft Word and other digital editing and markup tools to note errors and to provide feedback and suggestions.
- Maintains digital records, documents and files of work and revisions.
- Creates deliverables, documentation, publications, and reports according to the deliverables/reports schedule and requirements.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Associate’s degree with concentration in communications, professional writing, English, or equivalent experience preferred. Certificate in technical writing desirable
- Strong computer skills with a proficient knowledge of MS Office applications, Adobe Acrobat, windows based operating systems and working knowledge of cloud-based data management
- 5 years of technical writing experience in the Government Contracting industry or Education, writing technical proposals, curriculum, manuals, policy, and/or procedures
- Proven ability to review and correct material for content, format, style, and compliance with internal and external standards. Highly skilled in identifying and correcting grammatical, spelling, and other editing errors
- Highly proficient organizational, writing, communication and time management skills managing multiple ongoing projects simultaneously
- Demonstrated experience in writing and maintaining technical documentation to include newsletters, instructions, handbooks, procedures, and how-to documentation
- Capable of handling changing priorities and managing multiple projects and deadlines efficiently
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
- Government Secret Security Clearance (or ability to obtain one)

Pay: $65,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
