Position Summary: The Director of Programs plays a key leadership role overseeing program development, implementation and operations. This position involves strategic planning, financial management, and programmatic oversight to ensure the organization's mission is effectively carried out. The Director of Programs is a part of the executive team and works to drive organizational growth, sustainability, and impact.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The essential functions of the position include but are not limited to the following:
- Supervision of the Apprenticeship, Youth Apprenticeship, and Pre-Apprenticeship departments.
- To identify, interview, hire, train, manage and supervise program managers and their staff.
- Foster and maintain cohesive relationships between the Regional Program Managers (RPMs) and the Apprenticeship Team, ensuring seamless collaboration, clear communication, and alignment of goals to enhance program effectiveness and employer engagement.
- Lead and support the design, development, and implementation of all AJAC programs and initiatives aligned with the goals and organization's mission.
- Works with the Program Manager of Instruction to to build instructor pool that reflects the communities served.
- Analyze program data to assess impact, identify trends, and inform decision-making.
- Assist departments in developing and attaining key performance indicators (KPIs) as they relate to organizational goals.
Strategic Planning and Execution:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive strategy for apprenticeship and pre-apprenticeship programs aligned with organizational goals and industry needs.
- Oversee the development and delivery of program curricula, working closely with subject matter experts, instructors, and employer advisory boards.
- Help conduct market research and analysis to identify potential growth opportunities and emerging trends.
- Work with the Senior Manager of Business Engagement to come up with new programs or class offerings to remain competitive.
- Lead efforts to expand program offerings into emerging industries and occupations based on labor market demand.
- Monitor and evaluate the organization's program performance, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives.
- Identify areas for improvement and implement initiatives to drive organizational effectiveness and efficiency.
Financial Management and Resource Development:
- Assist the Director of Operations & Funding in the development, execution and monitoring of program budgets, ensuring fiscal responsibility and transparency.
- Support the Director of Operations & Funding in the continued development of diversified funding streams, including (but not limited to) earned income, grants, and sponsorships.
Program Development and Evaluation:
- Lead and support the design, development, and implementation of AJAC programs and initiatives.
- Oversee apprenticeship programs and develop and implement a comprehensive strategy aligned with organizational goals, student outcomes, and industry needs.
- Oversee youth-apprenticeship programs that create strong on-ramps into registered apprenticeship pathways.
- Help conduct industry needs assessments with the Senior Manager of Business Engagement and do assessments to identify community needs and gaps in services.
- Align industry and community needs with ongoing curriculum development/enhancement efforts.
- Develop program strategies, objectives, and measurable outcomes to address identified needs.
- Establish KPIs for program success, including participant enrollment, retention, completion, and placement rates.
- Monitor program effectiveness and impact, using data-driven approaches to evaluate and improve program outcomes and set yearly KPI goals for the teams.
- Analyze program data to assess impact, identify trends, and inform decision-making.
- Assist in the timely and accurate reporting to funders, partners, and regulatory bodies.
- Ensure programs meet federal, state, and local apprenticeship standards, including compliance with Department of Labor (DOL) and state apprenticeship agency regulations.
- Assist Training Coordinator in leading apprenticeship Committee meetings with apprenticeship staff.
- Work with Business Services and the Distribution Center to ensure that class materials and equipment are available and ready for programming.
- Assist in student or instructor issues when program managers need support and guidance.
Stakeholder Engagement and Relationship Building:
- Foster a positive organizational culture and engage internal stakeholders, including staff, volunteers, and board members.
- Work with the Senior Business Engagement Manager to collaborate with employers to ensure programs are responsive to their evolving workforce needs.
- Work with partnering colleges to ensure that curricula, program design, and FTE goals are being met.
- Support the Director of Compliance with RSI outcomes and reporting requirements as it relates to AJAC standards.
- Ensure that RSI is being updated and submitted to L&I on schedule to meet compliance requirements.
Team Leadership and Development:
- Provide leadership, guidance, and support to staff members and volunteers.
- Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment that encourages professional growth and development.
- Facilitate effective communication, decision-making, and problem-solving within the team.
- Conduct performance evaluations or regular check-ins with staff and provide coaching and mentoring to maximize individual and team performance.
Compliance and Governance:
- Work with the Director of Compliance to ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and apprenticeship governance standards.
- Work closely with the executive team to create and share out regular updates, reports, and recommendations with the board of directors and the apprenticeship committee.
- Support governance activities, including board meetings, committees, and strategic planning sessions.
Requirements
MANAGERIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the one or more staff members. It directly carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees, planning assigning and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems. The position delegates work assignments, matches the responsibility to the person, gives authority to work independently, sets expectations and monitors delegated activities, and provides recognition for results.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- 5 years of experience in education, workforce development, apprenticeship, career and technical education, or related fields. Proven experience in non-profit management, business development, or a leadership role.
- Deep understanding of apprenticeship models, work-based learning, and adult education best practices.
- Strong strategic thinking and analytical skills, with the ability to drive organizational growth and impact.
- Experience developing and managing budgets and grant-funded programs.
- Demonstrated financial management expertise, including budgeting, financial reporting, and resource development.
- Knowledge of program development, evaluation, and best practices in the non-profit sector.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders and build partnerships.
- Strong leadership and team management abilities, with experience in fostering a collaborative work environment.
- Understanding of non-profit governance, compliance, and legal requirements.
- Proficiency in using computer systems and software for financial management and data analysis.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge and experience of the Manufacturing industry.
- Knowledge of Apprenticeship programs
- Proficiency in MS Teams, MS Word and Excel.
EQUIPMENT UTILIZED:
Duties of this position will require the regular use of these types of machinery and equipment:
- PC or laptop, Printer/Copier, Telephone, General office equipment.
- Will be required to occasionally travel - a personal automobile is required for this purpose. Mileage reimbursement is provided for pursuant to AJAC policy.
Salary : $100,000 - $115,000
