Overview
Responsible for developing and delivering effective policies, procedures, auditing, training, communications and educational materials to promote an increased understanding and adherence to safe operating practices while ensuring compliance with company standards and government regulations.
Qualifications
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS AND EXPEIRENCE: High school diploma or GED with 5 years’ experiences in environmental, health and safety is required. Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental, Health and Safety with a minimum of 3 years’ experience in environmental, health and safety role in a manufacturing environment is preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to write procedures, policies, reports and correspondences. Must be comfortable delivering presentations to varied audiences. Ability to read and interpret documents. Proficient in MS Office. Knowledge of current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP). Good organizational skills with the ability to demonstrate effective communication, interpersonal and writing skills. Ability to work independently with little to no direction.
Working Conditions / Physical Requirements
WORKING CONDITIONS: Typical office environment working inside a controlled temperature environment. Occasional work required outside. This position may perform activities in an environment that contains hazardous elements and requires safety awareness and adherence to all safety policies and guidelines. Work must be performed in a safe manner for personal protection and for the protection of other team members. All safety procedures, procedures described in SOPs, BPRs, and support the compliance of applicable ISO standards in all functional areas must be followed, enforced, and strictly complied with.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Position requires the ability to sit for a minimum of 6 hours per day; stand, walk, bend over and reach above head less than an hour a day; minimal lifting or carrying of 10 pounds occasionally and repetitive use of hands/arms for writing and computer work.
Responsibilities
Establish and maintain safety performance goals and objectives · Facilitate regulatory compliance through Process Safety Management (PSM), risk analysis, air quality permits, proper water permits, hazardous response preparedness (HAZMAT) · Conduct and maintain training in accordance with company and regulatory requirements · Develop and implement audit and inspection programs and issue corrective actions as needed · In collaboration with the EHS Manager, facilitate the ISO 45001 Program and the ISO 14001 Program · Record, submit and maintain company and regulatory records and reports (OSHA, EPA, NCDEQ, etc.) · Lead the Safety Committee to address occupational health and safety concerns · Collaborate with environmental regulatory agencies to ensure compliance with 112R Risk Management Plan, SARA and Hazardous Chemical Management · Implement and maintain Corporate Sustainability goals applicable to the site · Develop and manage mid and long-term plans and budgets to include negotiating contracts, permits and agreements for new business opportunities · Certifies compliance with distribution permits, registrations and regulations for hauling · Collaborate with Technical Engineering and Production Operations during planning and execution of engineering and new product introduction · Plan, review and manage projects associated with environmental health and safety · Actively participate on the HAZ-MAT team as the Emergency Coordinator · Provide technical information on chemical safety as needed · Collaborate with Human Resources on managing workers compensation claims · Other duties as assigned The statements contained herein reflect general details as necessary to describe the principal functions for this job, the level of knowledge and skill typically required, and the scope of responsibility, but should not be considered an all-inclusive listing of work requirements.
