Overview
The Scientist role is responsible for providing analytical and technical support to the Quality Control Laboratory and Production departments.
Qualifications
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or similar scientific field with a minimum of 3 to 5 years’ practical experience in a chemical laboratory environment performing experiments related to chromatography, spectroscopy, manual and automatic titration and chemical identification.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP). Knowledge related to developing and validating new test methods. Good organizational skills with the ability to demonstrate effective communication, interpersonal and writing skills. Ability to work independently with little to no direction.
Working Conditions / Physical Requirements
WORKING CONDITIONS: Scientific laboratory environment working inside a controlled temperature area. Occasional work required outside. This position may perform activities in an environment that contains hazardous elements and requires safety awareness and adherence to all safety policies and guidelines. Work must be performed in a safe manner for personal protection and for the protection of other team members. All safety procedures, procedures described in SOPs, BPRs, and support the compliance of applicable ISO standards in all functional areas must be followed, enforced, and strictly complied with.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Position requires the ability to sit for a minimum of 1-2 hours per day; stand for a minimum of 3 hours a day; walk, bend over and reach above head less than an hour to an hour a day; minimal lifting or carrying of 10 pounds occasionally and repetitive use of hands/arms and eye hand coordination.
Responsibilities
- Conduct analytical testing of non-routine samples in support of investigations in the QC Laboratory and Production areas
- In communication with the Quality Control Lab and production personnel develop a clear understanding or testing requirements, priorities and deadlines
- Communicate results, as appropriate, actively participate in meetings/discussions about the results and participate in the identification of next steps
- In collaboration with the QC Lab Supervisor, assist in identifying, purchasing and installing new laboratory instruments
- In collaboration with QC Lab Supervisor, assist in the development and transfer of test methods
- Perform validation testing for new instruments and methods
- Provide feedback on improving existing test methods and procedures
- Maintain the upkeep of laboratory equipment to include troubleshooting issues and coordinating with vendors repairs
- Other duties as assigned
