What are the responsibilities and job description for the Radiation Health/Veterans Claims Manager position at Akahi Associates, LLC?
Overview
Place of Performance: The work to be performed under this contract will be performed at Defense Health Headquarters (DHHQ), Defense Health Headquarters 7700 Arlington Blvd Falls Church, VA 22042. The Contractor shall on occasion be required to attend briefings or training at the Pentagon, or other locations within the National Capital area of Washington DC.
Duty Hours: Normal duty hours range between 6:30 am to 5:30 pm eastern standard time, Monday through Friday (excluding federal holidays and Family/Down Days when published). Contractors will work an 8-hour shift between the hours of 6:30 am – 5:30 pm, such as 7:30 am - 4:30 pm with an hour for lunch or 6:30 am -3:30 pm with an hour for lunch. Work hours are subject to change and will be at the Government’s discretion and approval.

Responsibilities
- Organize and maintain the SG3PB Radiation Website.
- Supports day-to-day activities of the Radiation Health Program and its radiation exposure inquires program. Activities include receiving inquiries/claims, processing the requests, emailing official Air Force responses, and maintaining the SG3PB Radiation Inquiry Database.
- Reviews, interpret, and comprehend written requests. If data is insufficient, then contact requestor to obtain missing data. Set internal SG3PB suspense in the database regarding the inquiry. Requests that can be answered internally are given a two-week suspense.
- Create folders (electronic) for the veteran (used to maintain correspondence).
- Coordinates with the USAF School of Aerospace Medicine Radiation Dosimetry Master Radiation Exposure Registry (MRER) for the individual.
- Evaluate if the request should be sent to an external organization(s). If so, set an internal (SG3PB) suspense for those organizations.
- Drafts a response to the inquiring body and external organization (if required), based on the MRER search, for the AO to review and sign.
- Prepare official documents for distribution. Forward veteran's request to appropriate external agencies for evaluation and /or coordination. File electronic copies of veteran's request and corresponding AF responses. If an external organization's response takes more than 90 days, then the case should be closed internally; a follow-up letter to the inquiring body/organization should be drafted indicating that we have not received a response from that organization(s) and for the inquiring body to contact the external organization(s) directly. Input and track all AF response information in the database.
- Provide a monthly written summary (CDRL A003) of completed efforts and activities and provide a list of planned work efforts. This summary must include the number of requests received each week, the number of requests processed internally each week, the number of requests sent to external (outside SG3PB) organizations each week and their response status (less than 90 days or close out), the time to process requests internally, and the time it takes the respective organization to process the claim, status of all requests in the queue, and the cumulative actions for the calendar year.
Qualifications
- This position requires a working knowledge of the “A-Staff model” and close liaison with LAF, MAJCOM, OSD and Joint programmers and planners and operations staff. Therefore, contractor employees should have familiarity with USAF and DoD organization and structure.
- Experience with Microsoft applications, including Word®, Excel®, Outlook®, PowerPoint®, and Teams, and have strong written and oral communication skills.
- Education/Experience: An associate degree or higher and five years of experience working with veterans claims, or working in a radiation health position, or working in the bioenvironmental engineering career field.
