What are the responsibilities and job description for the Education Impact Coordinator position at Akron Zoo?
Description
The Education Impact Coordinator is responsible for developing, presenting, and evaluating educational programs both on and off zoo grounds, including, but not limited to, grant funded programs, on-grounds programs and tours, virtual programs and ZooMobile programs. This position will be responsible for creating and implementing standards-based programming curriculum. This position will also be responsible for creating and analyzing impact based evaluations for programming with a goal of continuous improvement.
In this role, you must be able to safely work with and present the Akron Zoo’s animal ambassadors, complete paperwork regarding the use of the animal ambassadors and follow all policies and procedures regarding animal handling and the use of animals for education programs set forth by the Akron Zoo.
It is important that in this role, you’ll be able to do a high quality presentation using the zoo’s animal ambassadors, biofacts and visual aids. This individual must have excellent public speaking skills and be aware of current trends in formal and informal education. In this role, you will participate in furthering the educational message of the Akron Zoo by following the Zoo’s and Education Department’s strategic goals.
This position is required to work weekends, holidays and evenings as needed to cover special events and programming as part of the education team. Work schedule is typically Tuesday through Saturday, but may change seasonally based on the needs of the business. This is a full-time salaried position.
Requirements
- Education: Associates or Bachelor’s degree in Education, Environmental Science or related field.
- Experience: 2-3 years’ experience teaching in a formal or informal setting with an emphasis in evaluation. Animal handling experience preferred.
- License Required: Valid Driver’s License
