Al’s Sporting Goods, Utah’s oldest full-line sporting goods dealer since 1921, is seeking a qualified, detail-oriented, and passionate Bike/Ski Shop Supervisor to oversee daily shop operations in our Idaho Falls store.
As the Service Manager, you'll lead our busy bike and ski repair shop, ensuring outstanding customer service, managing and mentoring shop staff, and supporting the continued growth of Al’s Sporting Goods. Our service department is a trusted resource for the local cycling and skiing community, from commuters and adventure-seekers to downhill and cross-country enthusiasts.
You’ll work with top-tier brands such as Trek, Specialized, Scott, Burton, Salomon, K2, and more—ensuring our customers receive top-quality service for the gear they love.
Key Responsibilities
- Technical Repairs & Maintenance: Conduct regular maintenance, tune-ups, and repairs for both bikes and skis, including suspension servicing, wheel building, mountain and road overhauls, and mounting ski bindings.
- Repair Management: Oversee and prioritize daily repair schedules, manage workflow, and maintain repair standards.
- Troubleshooting: Identify issues with equipment, determine repair needs, and articulate solutions to customers and team members.
- Team Leadership: Train, mentor, and manage a team of mechanics, promoting skill development and a positive work environment.
- Safety & Quality Assurance: Perform safety checks for ski equipment and conduct final quality inspections for all repairs.
- Customer Service: Engage with customers to diagnose issues, explain repairs, and deliver updates. Provide recommendations on maintenance and upgrades and provide exceptional service, addressing all customer inquiries professionally and ensuring satisfaction.
- Inventory & Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of work done and parts used, manage inventory, and keep detailed logs in our database.
- Team Leadership: Lead, train, and motivate a team of mechanics and technicians, ensuring a clean, organized, and efficient workspace.
- Quality Assurance: Conduct final inspections on repairs and ensure bikes are ready for safe, reliable use.
- Sales Support: Assist customers with purchasing bikes, parts, and services, offering knowledgeable product recommendations.
Qualifications
- Mid- to expert-level bike mechanic with 1–3 years of experience as a bike mechanic and ski technician..
- Proficient in suspension servicing, wheel building, mountain and road overhauls, ski binding mounting, and safety testing.
- Familiarity with current bike and ski products and service procedures from top brands in the industry.
- Strong ability to explain technical details to customers in a friendly, approachable manner.
- Maintains high standards for quality and accuracy in all repairs and customer interactions.
- Able to work well with others, communicate clearly, and support a collaborative team environment.
- Strong organizational and record-keeping abilities, ensuring work is completed on time and to standard.
- Must be able to lift 25-50 lbs. and work on-site.
