Summary:
Responsible for maintaining and the utilization of the facility including equipment, grounds, buildings, barns, arena, track, roads, parking lots, set-up and breakdown of event needs. Assists staff and clients in meeting the needs of the facility and events. This position is also responsible for providing educational experiences at the Center under the direction of the Agribition Center Manager, Extension Specialists from the Urban Animal Science Program, and Home Grounds, Gardens, and Home Pests team. This position works under the leadership of the Agribition Center Manager, team project leaders, and appropriate program leadership with the Urban Affairs and New Nontraditional Programs unit using innovative, nontraditional approaches including technological advances to provide outreach support.

- Plans, facilitates, and coordinates work schedules for event set-up, function, and take down.
- Maintains the facility, arena, grounds, buildings, barns, arena, track, roads, parking lots, set- up and breakdown of event needs.
- Maintains, operates, and supervises operation of equipment/machinery as needed for specific tasks.
- Maintains all grounds, buildings, equipment, etc. to ensure safety of employees and public.
- Provides appropriate set-up depending on the needs of the event.
- Assists in maintaining inventory of facility, and provides insight of utilization of equipment, stalls, pens, and animal handling systems of the facility.
- Will support a collaborative relationship between Alabama Cooperative Extension System and the Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University departments.
This job will be done under the following working Conditions:
- This position will be part-time, on-call with sufficient notice for scheduled events.
- Exposure to dust, dirt, animals, water, and other possible adverse conditions.
- This position requires driving equipment and machinery (farm and others), using tools (electric and hand), lifting, and carrying potentially heavy or bulky items.
- Able to lift and carry up to at least 50 pounds on a frequent basis or as needed.
Typical Qualifications
Minimum Position Requirements (including years of experience, certifications, licenses, etc.):
- High school Graduate or equivalent
- Two (2) years of related experience in management of livestock shows, operation of farm equipment/machinery, and/or related practical experience.
- Must have valid Alabama Driver’s license.
- Ability to proficiently and safely operate tractors, skid steer/track loader and similar equipment preferred.
- Ability to work flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Experience in management of livestock, livestock shows, operations of farm equipment/machinery.
- Ability to organize diverse tasks to completion.
- B.S. Degree in Agriculture or related field preferred
