ABOUT THE ROLE
E. H. Gentry Facility is one of the most distinct and comprehensive education and rehabilitation programs in the United States. You will be part of a dynamic team committed to a championship philosophy that underscores the genuine belief in and potential of all individuals.
As the Director of Deaf Services and DeafBlind programs, you will be responsible for supervising the development and coordination of specialized programs for individuals who are Deaf, DeafBlind, Hard of Hearing and those who have Autism Spectrum Disorder. You will provide strong leadership to your team including direct supervision, staff evaluation, staff development, and recruitment of team members. You as the director will collaborate with other departmental directors and report to the Executive Director. The role will involve collaboration with Alabama Department Rehabilitation Services and E.H. Gentry Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor Liaison.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Deaf Education, Rehabilitation, Special Education or a related field.
- Must possess Sign Language Proficiency of upon hire and obtain level of within 36 months of hire.
- Must provide documentation of sign language proficiency evaluation (SCPI available through AIDB).
- Minimum of 1 year of relevant experience in educational and rehabilitation supervision and/or administrative or other related professional supervisory experience.
- Proven experience of managing projects (including grant-funded), deadlines, and working with ambiguity.
- Knowledge and understanding of methodologies used to educate individuals who are Deaf, DeafBlind, and/or autistic, including curriculum development and the nuances of a residential component.
- Demonstrated strategic planning and budgetary development and management experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree in Deaf Education, Rehabilitation, Special Education or a related field.
- Three years of relevant and recent experience in Educational/Rehabilitation supervision and/or other related professional supervisory experience.
- Work history that demonstrates familiarity with AIDB units, local, state and national organizations/agencies.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Knowledge of the rehabilitation process and experience serving individuals with hearing and/or dual sensory loss.
- Knowledge and experience in DeafBlindness.
- Knowledge and/or experience with the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF).
- Must possess or develop an understanding of cultures and needs of persons who are Deaf, Hard of Hearing, Blind or DeafBlind, ensuring all actions and decisions demonstrate a respect for and value of persons with sensory loss
- Must obtain SLPI level of Advance Plus within 36 months of hire..
- Must be able to work flexible hours including nights, weekends and holidays.
- Must be able to be prepared to travel to conferences, conventions, or events.
- Must be prepared to give presentations to agencies and organizations promoting E.H. Gentry’s programs and Deaf Services/DeafBlind services.
- Work in collaboration with other caseload and department directors.
- Work closely with the case managers to ensure students and consumers receive all services provided.
- Manage AOD and attendances for Deaf Services staff members in timely manners.
- Work in collaboration with Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Services (ADRS) and E.H. Gentry liaison Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor.
- Provide support to all instructors and staff in Deaf Services/DeafBlind Programs.
- Oversee i-Can-Connect grant in collaboration with DeafBlind Program Coordinator and DeafBlind Assistive Technology Specialist.
- Upon being offered employment, the applicant must submit to a fingerprint background
check at an agency designated and paid by AIDB.

$75,000.00- $100,000.00
This is a non-exempt position and is subject to overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
