ABOUT THE ROLE
As the Statewide Community Transportation Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing AIDB’s statewide community transportation services, operated through our Regional Centers located throughout Alabama. This position will ensure that AIDB provides dependable, safe, and reliable community transportation services that improve quality of life for consumers throughout the State of Alabama. This is a new and unique position that reports to AIDB’s Transportation Department but works closely with each Regional Center director. This position requires state-wide travel, at least 90% of the time, with some overnight stay.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Coordinates with and advises Regional Center Directors during hiring process of local drivers
- Conducts performance evaluations that are timely and constructive.
- Coordinates with Regional Center Directors to issue discipline and termination of employees as needed and in accordance with policy.
- Coordinates with Regional Center Directors to assist in the development of the drivers and to ensure compliance with all state and federal laws as well as AIDB policy and protocol.
- Ensures driver lists are updated annually on each campus and that each driver remains eligible for AIDB vehicle insurance.
- Forecasts Regional Center long-range transportation needs and modifies plans based on data and trends of the communities and consumers we serve.
- Collaborates with stakeholders, communities and local Directors to design a year-by-year program meant to address those needs.
- Provides appropriate training for drivers as related to wheelchair securement, pre and post-trip vehicle inspections, and completion of ridership documentation.
- Provides appropriate training for Regional Center clerical staff as related to proper completion of documentation of vehicle ridership, purpose, efficiency, and compliance.
- Regularly travels to Regional Centers to monitor performance and compliance with program expectations.
- Regularly travels to Regional Centers to inspect vehicles for proper cleanliness, appropriate maintenance, and damages.
- Develops and implements a web-based transportation request system state-wide.
- Regularly prepares and submits required documentation for both 5310 and ARPA-funded community transportation vehicles.
- Actively participates in discussions between Regional Centers and AIDB Transportation to coordinate vehicles and certified drivers for special events.
- Maintains current knowledge of federal and state transportation regulations. Ensures compliance with those regulations.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- This position requires regularly weekly travel (day trips within the State of Alabama) and some overnight travel (semi-monthly) within the State of Alabama.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Must have an Associate’s Degree in logistics or supply chain management and a minimum of five (5) years of transportation experience with a large (1000 employees) organization or company,
OR
A Bachelor’s Degree in logistics systems, transportation management, operations management or distribution management and a minimum of two (2) years of transportation experience with a large (1000 employees) organization or company.
- Minimum of one year of leadership experience managing a team of at least ten people
- Proven experience in developing and implementing a comprehensive transportation system
- Proven knowledge of federal, state and county laws and policies concerning school. transportation operations, maintenance and safety.
- Must obtain sign language of proficiency level of SURVIVAL PLUS according to the AIDB evaluation system within the first thirty-six (36) months of employment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- Proven ability to provide training for vehicle inspections, proper operation, wheelchair securement, and ridership documentation.
- Organized with attention to detail.
- Ability to communicate effectively with consumers, Regional Center staff, and AIDB Transportation.
- Must have a valid and current CDL license with school bus and passenger endorsements upon hire and must maintain those credentials.
- Must obtain sign language of proficiency level of according to the AIDB evaluation system within the first thirty-six (36) months of employment.
SALARY: Associate’s Degree $53,599 - $71,503 Scale PI Rank 52
Bachelor’s Degree $69,947 - $91,505 Scale P1 Rank 61
