Job Goal
- To provide direction, planning, monitoring, and oversight of local school Child Nutrition Program (CNP)
- To supervise, direct, develop, and evaluate CNP personnel and designation staff to ensure quality and safety of school system food services
- To provide healthy, nutritious meals and food preparation services for students, staff, and visitors
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience in Child Nutrition Program preferred.
- Possess and maintain valid driver's license
- Ability to possess and maintain food safety certification
- Ability to meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457
- Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of Child Nutrition Program guidelines and regulations
- Ability to use technology as required to perform job responsibilities
- Ability to supervise, develop and evaluate assigned personnel according to school system procedures
- Ability to demonstrate leadership, organization, collaboration and planning skills to accomplish school goals and job requirements
- Strength, stamina, agility, dexterity and acuity to perform job responsibilities safely and effectively
- Ability, agility and stamina to engage in prolonged standing, stooping, kneeling, bending, turning, reaching, and repetitive lifting up to 30 pounds
- Ability to lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds
- Ability and willingness to work after hours, weekends, or holidays if necessary
- Ability to be punctual and in regular attendance.

- Maintains integrity and accountability of the Child Nutrition Program through compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations
- Ensures accountability of recorded documentation for compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
- Maintains a high level of cleanliness and sanitation in the kitchen and dining room areas of the school
- Provides a safe and pleasant environment for performance of work.
- Develops standards of excellence for providing and maintaining quality in the presentation and service of food
- Provides leadership to ensure school meals will be served in pleasant facilities and by a courteous staff
- Establishes administrative responsibility for all food service equipment through proper use and care
- Applies management principles to establishing and maintaining high standards of control for quality food production and distribution
- Provides a system for preparing and maintaining records that reflect an accurate report of planned menus, food production and distribution
- Ensures program credibility through daily monitoring of food production procedures, which includes foods produced and discarded
- Operates the CNP to provide proper receiving procedures and storage techniques that insure foods/non-foods maintain high quality and nutritive value until consumed
- Maintains an operation that responds to student's food preferences by implementing change when the need is indicated
- Offer versus Serve shall be implemented with acceptable food choices
- Operates the school's CNP within established guidelines for a financial management system that provides a cost effective program of high integrity
- Provides effective office organization and good paper management techniques to ensure all records and supporting documentation are maintained in accordance with federal, state, and local laws and policies. Keeps required paperwork up to date
- Organizes and manages the business functions of the school food service office to maintain an efficient and effective organization
- Manages the CNP staff according to all federal, state, and local district employment laws, policies, and regulations
- Communicates effectively with CNP Director, Principal, and staff members
- Implements organizational techniques to create an atmosphere for employee productivity, efficiency and satisfaction in the workplace
- Integrates a comprehensive training program and standards for evaluating employee performance into the overall management of the CNP
- Ensures all meals served in the school CNP meet current nutritional standards and meal pattern requirements
- Maintains nutritional integrity of the school's CNP through implementation of Dietary Guidelines for Americans
- Establishes leadership role in providing nutrition education as part of the total school education program
- Implements a marketing plan to create an atmosphere that attracts and pleases students, teachers, administrators, and other school support staff
- Provides leadership, which promotes child nutrition and creates an interest in the role of the school food service program in the school and community
- Provides leadership, which sets high professional standards for the CNP and employees through professional training
- Establishes professional status for the CNP's role in the education community by acquiring the education and skills necessary for leadership and management roles
- Performs related duties as requested by the Child Nutrition Program Director
- Demonstrates verbal ability required to read and comprehend instructions as well as issuing clear and concise instructions when supervising school food service employees
- Demonstrates numerical ability at level of simple arithmetic to complete weekly reports and bank deposits, calculate production quantities, recipes, purchase quantities, and inventory price extensions
- Demonstrates the ability to meet the physical demands required to stand for long periods of time, walk, reach, carry, push, bend, and handle items weighing up to 50 pounds when performing duties
- Be familiar with and follow Board of Education and local school policies
- Reports potential problems, unusual events, or work irregularities to appropriate administrative or supervisory personnel
- Perform other job related duties during the school day as assigned by the principal, Child Nutrition Director, and/or Superintendent of Education
- The manager is solely responsible for preparation of Breakfast service each day
- The manager should step in and assist lunchroom staff members in preparing meals when working short staffed
- The manager should "lead by example" in a professional manner for their employees whether it be by dress, attitude, verbal communication, work ethic, etc.
