What are the responsibilities and job description for the Deputy Sheriff Cadet (sponsorship) position at Alachua County Sheriff's Office (FL)?
A training position involving attendance at a recognized law enforcement academy for the express purpose of becoming an Alachua County Sheriff's Office Deputy Sheriff. This position requires commitment, diligence, and initiative.
Work is performed under the supervision of the Training Bureau Sergeants and the Judicial Services and Training Division Commander. Performance is evaluated through observation and grades obtained.
Preferred Major(s): Criminal Justice, Psychology, or other related field
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:

- Attend and successfully complete a Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) Basic Law Enforcement Certification course
- Pass the FDLE state certification examination
- Meet all standards required for employment as an Alachua County Sheriff's Office Deputy Sheriff

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
- None
- Current, valid Florida driver’s license
- Must be 21 years of age
- Must be a citizen of the United States
- Must qualify with one of the following residency requirements:
- Reside within the boundaries of Alachua County
- Reside in one of the counties that are contiguous to Alachua County providing their residence is no further than twenty (20) minutes from the Alachua County line or one (1) hour from the main building
- Must be willing to enter into a pre-employment agreement regarding length of ACSO employment
- Sit/stand for extended periods of time
- See/hear at a normal range
- Speak, read, write, and understand English fluently
- Ambulate independently
- Lift/carry 150 pounds
- Push/pull moderate to heavy loads
- Bend and squat
- Manual dexterity
- Drive a vehicle
- Pass ACSO’s standard Physical Agility Test as required
- Pass ACSO’s Firearms and Defensive Tactics courses as required
- Pass ACSO’s various driving tests as required
- Pass all other courses/training as mandated by ACSO and/or FCJSTC
- Ability to learn material presented at the academy
- Ability to analyze problems quickly and effectively
- Ability to apply modern law enforcement principles/procedures to solve practical problems
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
- Ability to comprehend and follow instructions and orders
- Good knowledge of English grammar, punctuation, and spelling
Salary : $53,000 - $84,728
