POSITION PURPOSE:
The LAN Network Engineer is responsible for managing, maintaining, and supporting the district’s Local Area Network (LAN) technologies and VoIP infrastructure, including the configuration, administration, and troubleshooting of network devices and systems within the organization. This role will ensure the efficient operation of the district’s LAN and VoIP infrastructure, focusing on network security, performance, and end-user connectivity and responsible for co-designing, installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) systems, ensuring high-quality voice communication by managing VoIP infrastructure, hardware, and software, while also monitoring performance and resolving any issues that arise with the system.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
- Graduation from a two-year college or technical school with coursework in networking or a related field.
- Minimum of one year of experience working with LAN technologies in a professional environment (preferred).
- Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered.

CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
- Must possess a valid driver’s license issued by the NC Department of Motor Vehicle
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Administer and maintain the district’s Local Area Network (LAN) infrastructure, including routers, switches, and wireless access points, VoIP phones, VoIP intercom systems.
- Ensure the proper functioning of network devices and systems, including configuration, updates, and troubleshooting.
- Implement and manage security measures to protect the LAN from unauthorized access or threats.
- Monitor network performance to ensure optimal operation and resolve any connectivity issues.
- Troubleshoot and resolve LAN-related hardware and software issues in a timely manner.
- Assist in the design and configuration of LAN services to meet the district’s needs and performance standards.
- Provide technical support to staff and users, addressing LAN-related problems or questions.
- Operate and monitor network management consoles to track LAN performance and ensure connectivity.
- Maintain accurate documentation of LAN configurations, network devices, and related components.
- Work with vendors to procure and replace faulty network equipment when necessary.
LAN Network Engineer Specific Duties and Skills:
- Assist in designing and deploying LAN configurations that meet organizational requirements.
- Maximize network performance by monitoring and troubleshooting LAN issues, assisting in upgrades as needed.
- Secure LAN infrastructure by defining and enforcing access policies and procedures.
