What are the responsibilities and job description for the Pilot Plant Technician position at Alamance Foods?
As a 1st Shift R&D Pilot Plant Technician at Alamance Foods, you will work hands-on in the pilot plant and laboratory to help the team develop high quality and safe food products.
- Location: Primary working at the 840 Plantation Dr. location & occasional travel to the other facilities located in Burlington.
- Hours: 7:00am – 3:30pm, Monday-Friday & occasional commitment on Saturday & Sunday.
- Must be bilingual or English as a first language
Key Accountabilities and Outcomes
Laboratory Responsibilities
- Conduct testing on all samples, including micro testing and performance evaluation.
- Routinely test samples for TPC, Coliforms, and Yeast/Mold, as applicable for the given sample.
- Ensure food safety and food handling techniques are followed during storage, preparation, and cleanup of all sample testing.
- Execute shelf-life studies of new products from the pilot plant and production line and document results on the RD Micro Tracker.
Pilot Plant Manufacturing
- Manufacture batches daily.
- Continuously improve understanding of small-scale equipment and how it translates to full production scale.
- Demonstrate problem solving skills to combat issues seen with batching and performance of samples.
- Communicate clearly and frequently with the R&D team regarding batching progress and any challenges encountered.
- Keep the production log up to date with all batches produced.
- Organize, clean, and maintain pilot plant fridge and cooler.
- Ensure compliance of all formulation activities to applicable good manufacturing practices, FDA regulations and standard operating procedures

Education & Experience
- High School or Associates Degree
- 0-2 years experience in the food industry
- Experience with dairy or dairy alternatives is preferred
- Experience with leadership is preferred
