Purpose Statement
The role manages oversees and manages all aspects of the processing operations during the 1st shift. This role ensures that production meets quality, safety, and efficiency standards while maintaining compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements. The Processing Manager leads a team of operators and technicians, drives continuous improvement initiatives, and ensures seamless execution of daily operations. This role will be leading a team consisting of hourly front line associates, and possibly salaried exempt associates. Responsibilities include cost efficiency, continuous improvement in processes, quality, and safety. This is an opportunity to lead a diverse team of 15 to 30 hourly processing associates with varying levels of experience. This role is expected to develop individuals and the team to solve processing operational issues and motivate team members to achieve performance targets.
Key Accountabilities/Outcomes
- Manage daily processing operations to meet production schedules and ensure product quality.
- Monitor equipment performance and address any issues to minimize downtime.
- Ensure all operations align with safety, quality, and efficiency standards.
- Supervise, train, and develop a team of processing staff, including operators and technicians.
- Conduct performance evaluations and implement improvement plans when necessary.
- Foster a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Ensure all processes adhere to food safety and regulatory requirements, including FDA, USDA, and company-specific standards.
- Collaborate with Quality Assurance to resolve any quality issues and implement corrective actions.
- Identify opportunities to optimize processes, reduce waste, and improve efficiency.
- Implement Lean, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies to achieve operational excellence.
- Applies 80/20 principals to daily processing operation.
- Maintain calibration of all processing equipment and measurement devices.
- Enforce compliance with all safety protocols and address potential hazards promptly.
- Coordinate with maintenance teams to ensure the equipment is properly serviced and functional.
- Maintain accurate records of production metrics, equipment performance, and workforce activity.
- Provide regular updates and reports to senior management on shift performance and improvement initiatives.
- Generate weekly processing KPI reports and update the site leadership.
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Knowledge/Skills/Experience
- Bachelor's degree, preferably in Engineering, Quality, or related field.
- Responsible for knowing and adhering to GMP, HACCP and SQF.
- 3–5 years of experience in food processing, manufacturing, or operations management.
- Prior leadership experience in a production or processing environment.
- Lean Six Sigma certification is a plus.
- Demonstrated proficiency with data analytics within Microsoft Excel, ERP Systems, and Microsoft Office.
- Technical understanding of industrial engineered products with the ability to communicate technically with customers, suppliers, and co-workers
- Experience in demonstrating technical leadership with Continuous Improvement systems including the ability to utilize structured problem-solving methods to deliver breakthrough business results.
