Career Counselor

Alamance United is Seeking experienced College & Career readiness professionals to assist youth age 16-21 with pursuing educational and career opportunities, and supporting their needs with 1 on 1 engagement, resource linkage and case management support.

A career counselor helps individuals assess their interests, skills, and values to identify potential career paths, providing guidance on choosing an occupation, developing career goals, and acquiring necessary education or training, including teaching job search skills like resume writing, interviewing, and networking to facilitate successful career transitions; they often work with students, recent graduates, or individuals seeking career changes, utilizing assessments and career development tools to guide decision-making and support career planning. Key responsibilities of a career counselor may include:

• Career assessments:Administering aptitude and interest tests to evaluate clients' strengths, weaknesses, and career compatibility.
• Individual counseling sessions:Providing one-on-one guidance to clients regarding career exploration, decision-making, and goal setting.
• Job search assistance:Teaching job search strategies like resume writing, cover letter crafting, and interview preparation.
• Career development workshops:Facilitating group sessions on topics like networking, industry trends, and career planning
• Information dissemination:Staying updated on current job market trends, educational opportunities, and industry requirements to share with clients
• Resource referral:Connecting clients with relevant organizations, training programs, or other support services as needed
• Career planning:Assisting clients in creating a personalized career plan with achievable steps to reach their goals
• Follow-up support:Monitoring client progress and providing ongoing guidance as they navigate career transitions

Required skills and qualifications:

• Strong communication skills: Ability to actively listen, provide clear guidance, and build rapport with clients
• Assessment expertise: Knowledge of various career assessment tools and their interpretation
• Labor market knowledge: Familiarity with current job trends, industries, and skill requirements
• Counseling techniques: Understanding of career development theories and intervention strategies
• Technology proficiency: Utilizing online career resources and databases to support client research

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour

Expected hours: 20 – 40 per week
