Job Summary
This position is placed in our Student Services Department, reporting to the Director, School Health Medical Billing, working in partnership with Local Education Agencies (LEA), Managed Care Plans, and other partner agencies to support development and implementation of school based Medi-Cal and Commercial billing programs.
Requirements / Qualifications
THE POSITION: Under the direction of the assigned supervisor, the School Health Medical Billing Specialist works in partnership with Local Education Agencies (LEA), Managed Care Plans, and other partner agencies to support development and implementation of school based Medi-Cal and Commercial billing programs including the LEA Billing Option Program, School Medi-Cal Administrative Activities (SMAA), and Managed Care Plan (MCP) Billing for the purposes of ensuring schools maximize revenues to support the provision of whole child strategies in schools and ensure health equity; provides technical assistance including training, consultation, and coaching support in the areas of onboarding, contracting, eligibility checking, provider documentation, claims submission, reimbursement and auditing. This job reports to the Assigned Administrator.

TYPICAL DUTIES: Conduct needs assessments and evaluate effectiveness of school health insurance billing infrastructure for the purposes of identifying opportunities to establish and maximize Medi-Cal and Commercial Reimbursements. Design and implement training, coaching and technical assistance programs for educational entities and community partners related to school-based Medi-Cal and Commercial billing programs including the LEA Billing Option Program, SMAA, and MCP Billing. Support LEAs with designing and implementing systems to support all aspects of school-based billing programs including; but not limited to, contracting and onboarding, credentialing, eligibility checking processes, documentation, claims submission, reimbursement and working with third party vendors. Facilitate a variety of meetings, learning networks and advisories related to school Medi-Cal and Commercial Billing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Experience: Five (5) years of increasing responsible experience participating in Medi-Cal and Commercial billing. Experience with billing in a school setting or with children in the youth population strongly preferred. Education: Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration or related field. Equivalency: Any combination of education, training and job-related experience equivalent to the above qualifications.
