What are the responsibilities and job description for the Staff Attorney position at Alamillo Law Firm?
The Firm:
Alamillo Law A Professional Law Corp. is a private law practice of both federal and state law. The firm has 15 years’ experience practicing federal immigration law, with a focus on family-based immigration law, removal defense, and humanitarian relief, such as U visas, VAWA, and SIJS cases. The firm also practices in the State of California family and probate courts, with a focus on parentage, custody, and guardianship cases in connection with SIJS cases. Lastly, the office handles limited conservatorships in probate court and Estate Planning.
Position:
The staff attorney will primarily focus on representing unaccompanied minors in removal proceedings. The attorney will work with immigrant minors who may have suffered harm in their home country or on their journey to the United States, and/or have suffered abuse, abandonment, or neglect by one or both of their parents. The attorney will present immigration relief against removal such as asylum under the TVPRA and SIJS, and attend hearings before the EOIR and state court in southern California.
Qualifications:
· J.D. degree from accredited law school
· Licensed and barred in the State of California
· Strong written and oral communication skills
· Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with others
· Ability to speak, read, and write Spanish competently
· Willing to work primarily in office
Responsibilities (non-exhaustive):
· Complete federal and state applications and petitions by meeting with immigrant minors and parent/guardian to collect information and evidence
· Take declarations of immigrant minors in support of their applications and petitions
· Draft Memorandums of Points and Authorities and other legal briefs
· Attend immigration court hearings and state court hearings
