Purpose
The primary purpose of this position is to train and teach staff in accordance with policies. Works directly under the supervision of the Director of Nursing. The instructor assists administration in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating educational in-services.
Essential Job Functions Duties and Responsibilities
Training Functions
1. Develop, plan, conduct, and schedule effective training classes that provide instructions on position tasks, satisfies in-service and orientation needs.
2. Provides continuing education training as able for the facility staff.
3. Manages staff certification and education to meet state survey requirements.
4. Maintains in-service attendance records, competencies, classroom and make-up work, and curriculum and test inventories.
5. Periodically review the policies and procedures and make recommendations for revisions. Monitor that staff comply with the written policies and procedures established by this facility.
6. Partner with other departments in planning the training programs, curriculum, and activities.
7. Utilize adult principles of learning and approved effective teaching techniques.
8. Promotes and performs continuous evaluation of programs.
9. Counsels and advises staff regarding policy, behavior, and / or attendance issues. Documents counseling sessions and conferences them with the Director of Nursing prior to and following any incidents.
10. Maintains a professional educational setting which enhances the education programs.
11. Assist in standardizing the methods in which training assignments will be accomplished.
12. Assist the Director of Nursing in planning clinical supervision for CNA's and other departments.
13. Administer and maintain staff immunization program.
Safety and Sanitation
1. Provide personal protective equipment to staff when performing procedures that involve exposure to blood or body fluids.
2. Maintain a work environment that is clean and presents a professional image.
Personnel Functions
1. Participates in staff reviews by observing performance and make recommendations to the Director of Nursing / Executive Director for action and monitoring.
2. Develop clinical training assignments and ensure completion and performance of such assignments.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Must possess the ability to make independent decisions, follow instructions, and accept constructive criticism. Must be able to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies / personnel, and the general public. Must be able to work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and potentially hostile people within the facility. Must be able to speak, write and understand English in a manner that is sufficient for effective communication with supervisors, employees, residents, and families.
Education and Experience
Must possess a Nursing Degree from an accredited college or university, or be a graduate of an approved LPN / LVN program.
Minimum of 2 years of experience in the subject field. Evidence of proficiency in Instructional methodology strong interpersonal communication skills.
Applies and accepted for state CNA instructor and testier if applicable.
Licensing / Certifications
Must possess a current and active license to practice as an RN or LPN / LVN in this state.

This position will be required to work beyond normal work hours, additional shifts, weekends and holidays when necessary. This position is subject to call-back during emergency conditions (e.g. severe weather, evacuation, post-disaster, etc.).
