Job Title: Assistant Fashion Designer
Based in Mapleville, RI, this role requires a minimum of 60% on-site work.
Reports to: Creative Director
Overview
This position demands creativity and knowledge of current fashion trends. You will develop designs based on consumer research and forward-thinking customer needs. Your primary responsibility is to drive the development process for seasonal releases and private label products.
Responsibilities:
• Research market trends and bring in new ideas through competitive shopping, tear sheets, magazines, trade journals, and websites.
• Create mood and style boards for collection inspiration and style tracking.
• Contribute to color selection based on market trends and sales evaluation.
• Prepare Technical Packages (TPs) that clearly communicate style and technical details for accurate style development.
• Meet design calendar deadlines and deliver high-quality products.
• Expertly sketch garments via flat and/or online techniques.
• Accurately measure garments, fit, and process TPs according to established standards.
• Communicate effectively with all necessary parties to ensure timely delivery and exceptional product quality.
• Create private label TPs as directed by incoming orders.
• Execute specific design development projects assigned by the company.
Qualifications:
• Degree or Certification in Apparel Design or equivalent work experience.
• 1-2 years of experience in an apparel-related role.
• Excellent communication skills for collaboration with Design, Production, Sales, and Social Media teams.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
• Capacity to respond to business objectives with creative, innovative, and cost-effective design solutions.
• Technical knowledge of knit sweater construction and manufacturing techniques.
• Ability to research and report on industry trend direction, color direction, and fabric innovations approximately 9-12 months ahead of season.
• Adaptability to fast-paced, demanding, and highly creative environments.
• Goal-oriented self-starter.
• Expertise in sketching or communicating design ideas.
• Proficiency in Adobe programs, Excel, and other Microsoft applications.
