The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) Southcoast Region Construction Division is looking for an Engineering Associate in Juneau to help us Keep Alaska Moving!

What You Will Be Doing

This position serves as a Southcoast Region Construction Division Project Engineer. As the Department`s designated representative for construction contract administration, the incumbent will be responsible for the inspection, acceptance and payment of work performed on one or more ongoing construction projects of average to above average complexity, projects with high potential for public impacts, and projects with sensitive stakeholder commitments.

The Working Environment You Can Expect

This position reports to the DOT&PF Southcoast Region 7-mile office located in Juneau, Alaska. Southeast Alaska is an area of unique habitats surrounded by temperate rainforests on steep-sided mountains, glaciers and marine waters that provide abundant recreational opportunities. The region’s coastal environment and topography make for unique construction considerations and solutions on projects ranging from small local street/highway projects to marine terminal work and improvements at regional airports. The position requires an ability to read and interpret design plans and specifications and develop well thought out engineering solutions and documentation during construction of regional projects.

The Southcoast Region encompasses Southeast and Southwest Alaska, including the Aleutian Chain. Minimum Qualifications

Eight years of progressively responsible work experience in engineering, land surveying or architecture, of which one year was as an Engineering Assistant 3 with the State of Alaska, or the equivalent elsewhere.

Substitution

ABET accredited college or technical school courses in engineering, architecture, land surveying or a closely related curriculum may be substituted for the non-specific required experience (3 semester/4 quarter hours equal one month). A bachelor's degree with a major in engineering, architecture or land surveying from an institution accredited by ABET may substitute for four years of the non-specific required experience.
