Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Surgical First Assist to join our team in the Anchorage and Matsu, AK area. This position is exclusively OR-based, with no clinic or rounding responsibilities. The ideal candidate will possess credentials as a PA or NP and demonstrate expertise in multiple surgical specialties, including general surgery, robotics, orthopedics, plastics, and vascular procedures, etc.
Responsibilities:
- Provide exceptional first assisting support during surgical procedures.
- Collaborate with surgeons and OR staff to ensure efficient pre-operative, intraoperative, and post-operative workflows.
- Assist with patient positioning, maintaining the sterile field, and anticipating surgical needs.
- Contribute to team education, process improvements, and ongoing skill development.
- Support seamless transitions between pre-op, intra-op, and PACU phases as needed.
Qualifications: Requirements:
- Minimum of 2 years of surgical assisting experience OR equivalent surgical scrubbing time as a surgical tech or perioperative nurse.
- Experience in general surgery, robotics, and orthopedics.
- Experience in plastics, spine, neuro, and vascular specialties is a plus.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required within 30 days of hire.
- Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) encouraged within 1 year of hire.
Education/Training:
- Graduate of an accredited Master’s Degree program for Physician Assistant Studies (PA) OR a Master’s/Doctoral Degree Program in Nurse Practitioner Studies (NP).
- NPs must have completed an accredited RNFA program that meets AORN requirements.
- Current state license where practicing; PAs must hold National Commissioned Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
- NPs with RNFA credentials are encouraged to seek certification through the National Assistant at Surgery Certification agency as soon as criteria are met.

Physical Requirements:
- Ability to perform essential duties with or without accommodations, including:
- Lifting, sitting, standing, or squatting.
