Plant Electrician
Alaska General Seafoods Naknek, AK
As a Plant Electrician at our Naknek, Alaska facility, you will be responsible for maintaining and repairing electrical systems and equipment within the seafood processing plant. Your duties will include troubleshooting electrical issues, performing preventive maintenance, installing new electrical components while adhering to electrical safety standards. You will work closely with other maintenance and production personnel to ensure the smooth operation of the plant. Strong electrical knowledge, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail are essential for this role. This is a Union position.
Essential Functions/Qualifications
The responsibilities of the position include the following:
- Installs, services, and repairs lighting fixtures, electrical panels, outlets, and wiring.
- Operates power hand tools and other specialized electrical equipment.
- Installs, repairs, and services specialized electrical equipment and machinery.
- Reads electrical circuit diagrams.
- Installs conductors, splices cables, builds terminations, and performs necessary hook-ups for primary power lines.
- Upholds and supports company rules and policies.
- Works in a safe manner and takes action to correct or report safety hazards.
- Other duties as assigned to ensure the facility and organization are fully supported and successful.
- Maintain and operate diesel generators
- Other duties as assigned

- Demonstrable ability to use electrical and hand tools (e.g., wire strippers, voltmeter, etc.) and electrical drawings and blueprints.
- Thorough knowledge of safety procedures and legal regulations and guidelines.
Work Environment and Schedule
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and extreme cold. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; risk of electrical shock, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Position requires onsite presence at our Naknek, Alaska processing facility and the ability to travel, including at times to remote locations.
Physical Demands
This role requires the capability to work consecutive, long, and variable work shifts for extended periods of time. Shifts typically range from 12 to 16 hours per day with periodic breaks depending on work demands. The work is strenuous and sometimes hazardous due to exposure to operating machinery, mechanical parts, fumes, chemicals, pressurized fluids, and vibration, with the facility operating under all types of weather conditions, including extreme cold. This includes standing, walking, and maintaining balance on wet or slippery surfaces.
Both hands must be capable of grabbing, holding, or gripping ropes, rails, equipment, and plant structures for frequent periods of time. Forceful grasping along with repetitive finger and hand use is occasional. Applicants must be able to climb up and down ladders safely, work in small and confined spaces, and pass all safety test requirements.
