The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF), Division of Facilities Services, is looking for an Engineer / Architect 2 / 3 Flex located in either Anchorage or Fairbanks to help us Keep Alaska Moving!

Pay is based on the location of the selected applicant; salaries will be discussed at the time of the interview.

Base Salary for Anchorage :

Engineer Architect 2 : $3591.75 / biweekly (OT Ineligible)

Engineer Architect 3 : $4121.25 / biweekly (OT Ineligible)

Base Salary for Fairbanks :

Engineer Architect 2 : $3699.75 / biweekly (OT Ineligible)

Engineer Architect 3 : $4245.00 / biweekly (OT Ineligible)

Job Description

This is a mid / senior-level project manager position working under a senior project manager. This position functions as a facilities design and construction manager requiring an intermediate level of knowledge of the principles and practices of engineering / architecture and project management. This position will manage, coordinate, and administer multiple intermediate to large-sized complex facilities projects, and may supervise subordinate engineering assistants or project inspectors.

The Working Environment You Can Expect :

This position is located in Anchorage or Fairbanks (depending on where the selected candidate resides), and is primarily an office setting with occasional construction site visits. A hybrid teleworking schedule is an option with this position. Travel by vehicle is required and the candidate must have a valid driver’s license. Travel in light aircraft to remote locations may also be required.

Who We Are Looking For :

  • Civil Engineering : Knowledge of the concepts, principles, theories, and methods required to plan, design, construct, operate, and maintain facilities such as buildings, transportation systems, water and sanitary systems, and other public works systems.
  • Project Management : Knowledge of the principles, methods, or tools for developing, scheduling, coordinating, and managing projects and resources, including monitoring and inspecting costs, work, and contractor performance.
  • Problem Solving : Identifies and analyzes problems; weighs relevance and accuracy of information; generates and evaluates alternative solutions; makes recommendations.
  • Accountability : Holds self and others accountable for measurable high-quality, timely, and cost-effective results. Determines objectives, sets priorities, and delegates work. Accepts responsibility for own actions and decisions. Complies with established control systems and rules.
  • Oral and Written Communication : Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral and written presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.

Minimum Qualifications

Engineer / Architect 2 :

Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) or Architect, and one year of professional experience as an Engineer / Architect 1 or Engineering Associate with the State of Alaska, or the equivalent.

Engineer / Architect 3 :

Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) or Architect, and three years of professional engineering or architectural experience (Engineer / Architect series), or the equivalent.

Special Note :

Persons not registered in the State of Alaska must be registered in a state recognized by the State Board of Registration for Architects, Engineers and Land Surveyors eligible for comity in accordance with AS 08.48.191(b). Persons employed under this provision must become registered in Alaska within one year of hire and sign an agreement to this effect as a condition of employment.

  • DEPARTMENT EMPLOYEE RECRUITMENT ONLY :

    Applicants must currently work in the department that is being recruited for and have held or currently hold permanent employment status in any position in the classified service as defined in Alaska Statute 39.25.100. Permanent employment status is defined as holding permanent status in ANY job class in the current period of employment with no break in service (separation from State of Alaska employment) since the permanent status was earned.

    FLEXIBLE STAFFED :

    This position is flexibly staffed. This vacancy may be filled at either the Engineer / Architect 2 or Engineer / Architect 3 level, depending on the applicant's training and / or experience. The full range of salaries is listed above. Starting salary will be determined by the level the position is hired at. If filled at Level 2, promotion to Level 3 will occur upon successful completion of the probationary period and required training, as well as the applicant meets the minimum qualifications of the higher job class.
