As a Utility Lead Engineer, you will review utility permits and utility agreements in State of Alaska highway corridors and airport properties within a specific geographic area in the DOT&PF's Central Region. This includes assigning and reviewing the work for a team of engineers producing utility agreements and utility permits. You will also be responsible for providing guidance to staff on the inspection and relocation of utilities.
This flexibly staffed position offers a structured path for career growth. Depending on your qualifications, you may be placed at the Engineering Assistant 3, Engineering Associate, or Engineer/Architect 1 level. After successfully completing a one-year probationary period and the required training plan, you will have the opportunity to advance to the next level.

The working environment you can expect:
This position is located at the Central Region Headquarters building on Lake Hood (4111 Aviation Ave.), off International Airport Road in Anchorage. The office building includes cubicles and office space organized by sections and teams. As a side benefit, you will have easy access to biking and walking trails around Lake Hood. Office hours and schedules have some flexibility (including telework options). Travel to project sites may be required for short durations.

Minimum Qualifications
Engineering Assistant 3:
Bachelor's degree with a major in engineering, architecture or land surveying from an institution accredited by ABET.
AND
Two years of engineering, architectural or land surveying experience of which one year was at the working or intermediate trainee level. The specific experience includes such work as an Engineering Assistant 2 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere.
Or:
A bachelor's degree with a major in a branch of engineering from an institution not accredited by ABET.
AND
An Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certificate issued by a state or the National Council of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors; or verification of passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination.
AND
Two years of engineering, architectural or land surveying experience of which one year was at the working or intermediate trainee level. The specific experience includes such work as an Engineering Assistant 2 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere.
Substitutions:
Four years of any combination of ABET accredited postsecondary education in engineering, architecture, or land surveying (3 semester/4 quarter hours equal one month) and/or engineering, architectural or land surveying experience may substitute for the required degree.
Graduate study in engineering or architecture may be substituted for the required experience (2 semester/3 quarter hours equal one month).
Engineering Associate:
Eight years of progressively responsible work experience in engineering, land surveying or architecture, of which one year was as an Engineering Assistant 3 with the State of Alaska, or the equivalent elsewhere.
Substitution:
ABET accredited college or technical school courses in engineering, architecture, land surveying or a closely related curriculum may be substituted for the non-specific required experience (3 semester/4 quarter hours equal one month). A bachelor's degree with a major in engineering, architecture or land surveying from an institution accredited by ABET may substitute for four years of the non-specific required experience.
Engineer/Architect 1:
Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) or Architect.
Note: Positions in this class require professional registration as either an Engineer or an Architect. The employer will designate which professional field is required for each position.
Special Note:
Persons not registered in the State of Alaska must be registered in a state recognized by the State Board of Registration for Architects, Engineers and Land Surveyors eligible for comity in accordance with AS 08.48.191(b). Persons employed under this provision must become registered in Alaska within one year of hire and sign an agreement to this effect as a condition of employment.
