Summary:
Under direct supervision, ensures patient safety under Alaska Native Medical Center (ANMC) care through observation. May assist a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) with patient activities of daily living.
Responsibilities:
Observes patients experiencing suicidal ideation, behavioral health issues, or other safety concerns to ensure safety and stability. Recognizes abnormal behavior or changes in behavior and notifies primary Registered Nurse (RN). Records and reports all information within scope of knowledge.
Conducts regular environmental assessments with the primary nurse to ensure the environment is free of objects, equipment, medications, etc. that a patient may use to harm themselves. Must be able to work in situations with isolation precautions.
Assists nursing staff with bed changes, patient transport, ambulation, range of motion, and mobility using safe transfer techniques.
A ssists CNA with basic care including hygiene and activities of daily living such as bed baths, showers, grooming, dressing, toileting, preventative skin care, incontinence care, feeding, and oral hygiene.
Assists in the provision of a safe and clean environment.
Maintains confidentiality in regard to patient information. Assists in infection control using standard and isolation precautions as appropriate. Collaborates with personnel in nursing and supportive services and with members of the health care team to promote respect in delivery of patient care.
Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM EDUCATION QUALIFICATION
A high school diploma or GED equivalent.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION
Non-supervisory – None.
MINIMUM CERTIFICATION QUALIFICATION
Basic Life Support (BLS) card required.
PREFERRED EDUCATION QUALIFICATION
Currently enrolled in a CNA training program.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION
Previous work experience in a hospital setting preferred.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Must complete Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training and Suicide Observation training within sixty (60) days of hire.
