Summary:
The Human Resources (HR) Specialist helps with the administration of the day-to-day operations of the human resources functions and duties. The HR Specialist supports staff, organization-wide, by assisting with complex and specialized administrative tasks in the following functional areas: customer service, department administration, training and development, recruitment, benefits and compensation, and workplace relations.

Responsibilities:

  • All Interact with customers and employees via telephone, email, online chat, or in person to provide quality service;
  • Ensure appropriate actions are taken to resolve customer and employee problems and concerns;
  • Assist in New Hire Orientation preparation and recordkeeping;
  • Prepare, schedule, and process onboarding schedules;
  • Maintain and ensure compliance in preliminary and final background clearance;
  • Maintain employee badging system;
  • Assist with employee relations;
  • Assist with general benefit and payroll inquiries;
  • Assist in audit preparations;
  • Compile and update employee records (hard and electronic copies);
  • Maintain confidentiality of HR files and records;
  • Assisting with the day-to-day efficient operation of the HR office.
  • Assist recruiting with pre-employment requirements;
  • Assure completeness of files and paperwork;
  • Assist HR leadership with various research projects and/or special projects as required;
  • Provide assistance to all HR functional areas as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


KNOWLEDGE and SKILLS

  • Knowledge of customer services concepts and practices.
  • Knowledge of multi-line telephone systems operation.
  • Knowledge of basic purchasing processes.
  • Knowledge of filing procedures.
  • Knowledge of Alaska Native culture and the Alaska Native Tribal Health Systems.
  • Knowledge or ability to quickly learn payroll management, HRIS systems, and computer applications.
  • Skill in operating office equipment.
  • Skill in oral and written communication. Skill in maintaining and updating office and administrator schedules.
  • Knowledge of human resources procedures.
  • Skill in managing multiple priorities and tasks concurrently to meet deadlines.


MINIMUM EDUCATION QUALIFICATION
One year of post-secondary vocational-technical or college education in office administration. Equivalent related training, education, or experience may be substitute for education.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION
Non-supervisory – Two (2) years of human resource experience or three (3) years of skilled office experience. Equivalent education, training, or similar experience may be substituted for relevant experience.
