Summary: Under general supervision, performs electro-cardiovascular EKG examinations, phlebotomy tasks and other non-nursing tasks as assigned that assist in the care and treatment of patients.
Responsibilities:
Performs diagnostic EKG examinations according to Department procedures. Applies electrode probes to chest to obtain electrical pattern tracings from heart. Records electrical patterns and identifies any anomalies indicative of disease, injury, or other medically significant condition.
T unes and adjusts equipment to achieve optimum results. Adjusts equipment and calms patient to eliminate test artifacts.
M onitors the patient for potentially dangerous physical and emotional changes. Recognizes abnormal rhythms and immediately notifies physician.
E valuates test results for clarity and accuracy. Informs physicians of preliminary findings as requested, and according to Department procedures. Distributes completed test results to physicians and service providers. Maintains patient charts, and updates file systems for tests performed.
R esponds appropriately to requests for assistance and facilitates the timely flow of patients through the department. Cleans and sterilizes equipment and workspace. Recognizes equipment malfunctions and readjusts equipment or refers for repair.
T rains and cross-trains other clinical staff as required.
I nstructs patients in pretest preparation, answers questions, and explains procedures consistent with the scope of practice for an unlicensed practitioner.
P rovides phlebotomy services, including venipuncture. Obtains and transports lab specimens.
U tilizes effective communication and problem-solving skills to promote a positive work environment and resolve conflict. Collaborates with personnel in nursing and supportive services and with members of the health care team to promote respect in delivery of patient care.
D ocuments patient information and care provided.
A nswers incoming phone calls and routes callers to appropriate department or personnel. Provides customer services to patients, physicians, nurses, and others ancillary staff.
P rovides clerical and technical support to the Department.
P erforms other duties as assigned.

C urrent Basic Life Support card required.
