Business and Functional Purpose
Through its merger with Oil Search, Santos has acquired and assumed operatorship over a world-class portfolio of oil leases on the Alaskan North Slope, USA.
Our focus in Alaska is advancement of our Pikka Phase 1 project, which includes a single drill site, an oil processing facility, and other infrastructure to support production of 80,000 barrels of oil per day.
Pikka has been identified as being among the top quartile of oil and gas development projects for greenhouse gas emissions performance. Pikka is poised to play an important role in the energy transition and is aligned with our company goal of managing climate change risk. The project is on track to be ready for a final investment decision by mid-year 2022.
The Pikka Unit is one of the largest conventional oil discoveries made in the United States in the last 30 years, and the Pikka Phase 1 Project is the most significant development on Alaska's North Slope in more than 20 years.
The permitted Pikka development project includes two additional drill sites. The Alaska assets also include discoveries made from both the Mitquq and Stirrup exploration wells drilled in 2020. These opportunities combine to offer a clear path to long-term growth in Alaska.
Position Purpose
The Permitting Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating with BU functions during field activity planning to identify permit requirements, developing permit strategies and performing risk assessments. They are responsible for engaging with regulatory agencies and for communicating regulatory information to key Santos stakeholders.
They will be responsible for the development and modification of programs, processes, procedures, and systems as necessary to ensure permit processes are timely and compliant with changing regulations.
The Permitting Coordinator role requires attention to detail, the ability to effectively manage available resources, and prioritize work on a continual basis and identify permit related schedule risks to the BU, in an integrated environment.
Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities
- In consultation and coordination with Project Managers, external clients, and regulatory agencies, secures environmental permits and renewals for all OSA field activities.
- Plan, budget, and manage contracts in support of permitting activities
- Present regulatory information to key stakeholders.
- Communicates with key stakeholders to ensure maximum understanding of the relevant permits and guidelines that impact Santos Alaska's license to operate.
- Assists in the quality control and management of pertinent information required to complete and file compliance reports with regulatory agencies.
- Coordinates closely with the Compliance function in the development of field compliance tools; and the data management and reporting systems.
- Ensures strict adherence to approval flow, timeframes, and other permitting requirements.
- Participates in agency and community meetings in support of work planning and permitting.
- Interfaces with multi-disciplinary team to ensure that all scoped field activities are considered throughout the permitting cycle.
- Retain political awareness regarding legislation changes that may impact the permitting processes for the project.
