Kuukpik Corporation successfully negotiated a comprehensive surface-use agreement. This agreement established provisions for education, training, preferences in contracting, employment, and the environment for the village of Nuiqsut.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
Under the supervision of the Permitting Representatives, the Permitting Intern provides general administrative support to the Lands department. The Permitting Intern position is a work-based learning program that provides on-the-job training alongside experienced staff. The Permitting Intern will support day-to-day operations and assist in other special projects as directed. The Permitting Intern will assist the Kuukpik Land Department with managing ANSCA surface estate and various surface use agreements through regulatory review and advocacy.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Regularly review North Slope Borough permits and approvals.
- Review selected draft permit applications and operations plans and provide input/feedback to Kuukpik.
- Review environmental impact statements for selected activities.
- Participate in selected meetings and consultations with the oil industry and regulatory agencies.
- Participate in selected Kuukpik internal meetings
- Provide general administrative support for the department, supporting all land projects and initiatives as directed.
- Maintain lands files, ensuring filing is completed on time following established procedures.
- Assists with coordination of land planning, surveying, and use permits with the corporation's other development activities
- Assists with the activities of permittees, contractors, and lessees to ensure compliance with governmental agency statutes and regulations.
- Learn to identify needed regulatory actions for Kuukpik planned or ongoing activities and operations.
- Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- High School Diploma/GED
- Interest in geology, natural resources, or ANCSA history
- Basic computer skills
- Proficiency in MS Office suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Familiarity with Adobe
- Valid Drivers License

- Prolonged sitting at a desk using a computer.
- Minimal walking and standing.
