Golf Course Grounds Assistant Superintendent Trainee

Founded in 1890, Albany Country Club is a private, 18-hole course located in Voorheesville, NY just Southwest of the city of Albany. It is one of the oldest continuously operated clubs with golf in the country. The club has (3) har-tru tennis courts, (2) paved tennis courts, paddle tennis, pool facilities for family activities with the crown jewel of a golf course and practice facility as our focal point. The golf course is known for being one of the finest in the northeast. The 7100-yard golf course was designed from 1961-1964 by Robert Trent Jones, the “Dean of American golf course architects”.

We are currently looking for an Assistant-In-Training that is able to work from April-Dec. Our program is designed to serve as a foundation for aspiring turf professionals. We take great pride in our program and will allow our "AIT" to play an integral role in our operation. He/She will be exposed to the many facets of the industry. We work with individuals to develop both short and long term career goals as we are privileged to help mentor our future leaders. This position is for someone who is hard-working, driven and willing to learn everything there is to know about running and operating a golf course. This candidate will gain the necessary knowledge to help climb the ladder to one day becoming a Golf Course Superintendent.

The successful applicant will be a self-motivated individual, demonstrating strong communication skills as necessary to support the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent with all aspects of golf course management. The applicant should possess a thorough understanding of the daily requirements of golf course operations, golfers' expectations, and playing conditions while being dedicated to continuous improvement of the course. Position Responsibilities:

• Daily mowing of all playing surfaces
• Proper water management (hand watering, etc.)
• Fertilizer and chemical applications
• Proper course set up (daily hole and tee locations and detail work)
• Cultural practices (topdressing, aerification, etc.)
• Irrigation maintenance (irrigation head fixes, pipe repairs, locating/troubleshooting wiring issues)
• Learning how to manage according to the weather
• Communicate well with the crew, management and members
• Carry oneself with professionalism in both appearance and demeanor
• Understand the importance of networking, career preparation, and record keeping

Working Conditions:

• The employee is often required to stand, walk, and use hands
• Work weekends and holidays
• Rain, cold and the heat
