What are the responsibilities and job description for the RN - Intensive Care Unit (Night Shift) position at Albany Medical Center?
The Coronary Care Unit (CCU) at Albany Medical Center is a 17-bed cardiac critical care unit with each room equipped with invasive monitoring capabilities. The patient population consists of adult patients aged 18 and older experiencing actual or potential life-threatening cardiac dysfunction.
Key Responsibilities:
- Implement physician orders, administer medications, start IVs, perform treatments, procedures, and special tests as required by company policy and local/state/federal rules and regulations.
- Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests to identify and assess patients' conditions, assess and evaluate patient needs for, and responses to, care rendered.
- Apply sound nursing judgment in patient care management decisions, collaborate with the nursing team to create a Plan of Care for all patients, and direct and guide ancillary personnel while maintaining standards of professional nursing.
Clinical Expertise:
- Continuous EKG monitoring for potentially life-threatening dysrhythmias and implementation of emergency measures in the absence of a physician according to the American Heart Association's Advanced Cardiac Life Support (AHA-ACLS) Guidelines.
- Monitoring and care of patients with Impella ventricular assist devices, Intra-Aortic Balloon Pumps, Pulmonary Artery Catheters, TVPs, and Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy.
Nursing Practice:
- Assesses and evaluates patient needs for, and responses to, care rendered.
- Provides primary and emergency care for occupational and non-occupational injuries and illnesses.
