Overview
The Human Resources (HR) Generalist is responsible for performing a variety of HR functions, including benefits administration, payroll processing, compensation and classification, performance management, and employee relations. This role ensures compliance with university policies and legal regulations while fostering a positive work environment. Sponsorship is not available for this position.
Responsibilities
Benefits Administration
- Administer employee benefits programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, disability, and wellness initiatives.
- Assist employees with benefits enrollment, claims, and inquiries.
- Coordinate open enrollment and provide educational sessions on benefit options.
- Ensure compliance with federal and state laws (e.g., COBRA, FMLA, ACA).
Payroll Processing
- Process payroll accurately and timely, ensuring compliance with wage and hour laws.
- Maintain payroll records and resolve payroll discrepancies.
- Collaborate with Finance to ensure tax filings and deductions are accurate.
- Handle payroll-related employee inquiries and assist with timekeeping systems.
Compensation and Classification
- Assist in job classification and salary structure development.
- Conduct market research to ensure competitive compensation practices.
- Support performance-based pay adjustments and annual compensation reviews.
- Maintain accurate job descriptions and update classification structures as needed.
Employee Relations
- Serve as a point of contact for employee concerns and workplace issues.
- Investigate and resolve employee complaints in compliance with university policies and labor laws.
- Promote positive employee relations through engagement programs and conflict resolution.
- Assist with disciplinary actions, performance improvement plans, and terminations.
Compliance & HR Support
- Maintain HR policies and procedures in alignment with legal requirements.
- Ensure compliance with employment laws, such as EEOC, FLSA, and ADA.
- Assist in HR reporting, audits, and recordkeeping.
- Support HR projects, training initiatives, and onboarding processes.
Performance management
- Assist with performance evaluations, feedback, and goal-setting.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of HR experience in benefits, payroll, compensation/classification, and/or employee relations. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills to foster positive relationships across all levels of the organization.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
- Knowledge of current employment laws and best practices in human resources.
- Experience working in a University or College preferred.
