Job Overview:
The Academic Advisor will serve as the contact person to his/her assigned students who attend classes online or on our New Haven campus. He/she will meet with students on a regular basis to develop and monitor educational plans and goals. He/she will also work closely with other advisors, admissions, the registrar, department chairs, and faculty to provide timely and accurate information on course/degree options.
Essential Functions:
- Meet with new and returning students to develop and monitor educational plans and goals.
- Conduct one-on-one orientations with new students to go over the college portal, e-learning, and review policies and procedures.
- Provide students with information about resources to support them academically and personally.
- Attend advising-related professional development opportunities as required.
- Assist faculty advisors with questions and help process registration.
- Monitor student attendance, Navigate alerts, and progress reports
- Attend virtual new student orientations.
- Serve as a liaison between the business, registrar, and financial aid offices.
Qualifications:
- Two years of previous experience in academic advising preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Education:
- Master's Degree in higher education or related field preferred.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Ability to work independently, multi-task, identify priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain attention to detail.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
