Albin, Randall & Bennett is partnering with Berman & Simmons to identify their next Director of Finance and Operations. The Director of Finance and Operations plays a strategic leadership role in shaping the financial health and operational excellence at Berman & Simmons. As the Director of Finance and Operations you will be responsible for overseeing financial planning, reporting, and accounting practices, as well as managing relationships with lending institutions, shareholders, and the financial community. In addition, as the Director of Finance and Operations you will be responsible for overseeing the Firm’s Accounting, IT, and Service departments, and ensure effective management of all office facilities. As one of the Firm’s three senior Administrators, you will report to the Managing Director and play a key role in the day-to-day here at Berman & Simmons.
As the Director of Finance and Operations, You Will:
- Lead & oversee accounting, tax, real estate, and insurance activities for the Firm.
- Partner closely with the Managing Director on current and long-range objectives, cash management, and compliance.
- Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with financial institutions to manage lines of credit and funds effectively.
- Ensure that the systems and procedures are in place to maintain proper accounting records.
- Review the operating results of the Firm, compare them to established objectives, and take any necessary steps to ensure that appropriate actions are taken when necessary.
- Interpret and present financial statements and the daily operating controls (DOC) regularly and inform the Managing Director of developing trends and key insights.
- Manage the timely preparation and issuance of the Firms’ monthly financial statements and other necessary reports for the shareholders.
- Collaborate with independent CPAs to ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and tax code and advise shareholders regarding any operational adjustments needed to accommodate tax code revisions.
- Work closely with legal counsel to ensure the Firm’s financial activities are properly conducted, documented, and reported.
- Develop, implement, and continuously work to establish, maintain, and monitor an effective internal control environment.
- Negotiate and manage insurance coverage in coordination with the HR Director to optimize employee benefits.
- Continually strive to improve data integrity and information reporting throughout the Firm.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable government finance regulations, including filing and/or maintaining of required forms, payroll taxes and deposits, income taxes, retirement plan records, etc.
- Collaborate with the Managing Director and outside counsel to complete all corporate filings.
You Will Also:
- Oversee all office facilities management, including project management, disaster recovery planning, and emergency preparedness.
- Serve as plan administrator for the firm’s 401(k) plan through Fidelity.
- Oversee firm travel plans for individuals and groups.
- Supervise publications, subscriptions, and legal research platform to ensure resource availability.
- Play an active role in organizing Firm functions.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Lead and support employees in the Accounting, Service, and IT department employees in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
As the ideal Director of Finance and Operations, You Have:
- Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, or finance; CPA or MBA strongly preferred.
- At least 10 years of relevant work experience, including experience in a leadership role. Director level experience and experience in a professional services environment a plus.
- Strong financial planning, analytical, and strategic problem-solving skills.
- Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and deliver high quality results under timelines.
- High attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy and accountability.
- Adaptability and flexibility in a dynamic and evolving environment.
- A proven ability to foster strong relationships across all levels of the organization.
- A passion to be highly collaborative, self-motivated, and team oriented.
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to convey complex information clearly.
- Strong aptitude for technology, including the ability to learn and adapt to software systems and familiarity with cybersecurity best practices.
