Job Description
Serves as the lead in the design of provider care for LIFE and as a liaison to the medical community on behalf of the LIFE Program. Provides clinical leadership, ensures appropriate provider care, meets community standards, and provides consulting services to LIFE primary care providers.
Embraces the team concept and interdisciplinary care in the LIFE Program environment. Participates as an active member of the interdisciplinary team as appropriate, determining the program goals, and working closely with LIFE colleagues to monitor key benchmarks for LIFE program services.
- Supervises and evaluates all patient-required provider services and continually evaluates the current provider coverage for continuity and workability, and makes changes as needed.
- Ensures compliance with state and federal LIFE provider and program requirements as they relate to the delivery of medical and clinical services.
- Responsible for implementation and oversight of the quality assessment and performance improvement program; oversees quality reviews and makes recommendations on medical and clinical issues regarding patient care, incidents, accidents, complaints, or medical procedures.
- Defines, develops, and implements the 24-hour medical coverage system for the LIFE program; ensures ongoing coverage and continuity; coordinates with LIFE providers for on-call coverage and participates in that coverage as needed.
- Acts as a medical liaison between the LIFE program and others in the medical community (i.e., primary physician/provider groups (attending), specialists, and hospital staff); promotes discussions regarding medications, treatments, discharge, and alternative regimens.
- Facilitates resolution of differences of opinion between multidisciplinary team and providers as they arise; facilitates provider and/or department cooperation/coordination and assistance regarding patient compliance, treatment, etc.
- Actively participates in the development of program policies and procedures and their ongoing evaluation; writes/assists with the development of medical/clinical policies and procedures as needed; assists with the development of policies for other disciplines as needed; participates in review and approval of policies and procedures as a member of the Albright LIFE administrative and leadership team.
- Works with other directors to improve program services, finances, and plans.
- Follows all Albright LIFE policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
- Attend Interdisciplinary Meetings, and other departmental meetings, at the request of administrative staff.
- Maintain confidentiality of all company procedures, results, and information about employees, participants, clients, or families.
- The Medical Director will provide oversight of Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants relative to quality oversight review for referrals, review of the standards of medical practice incorporating consultation and chart review, drug and other medical protocols within the practice setting, periodic updating in medical diagnosis and therapeutics and cosigning records when necessary to document accountability by both parties in conjunction with collaboration agreement.
Qualifications
Hold an MD/DM degree, Pennsylvania medical license, and board certification in internal medicine or family practice; additional certification or experience in geriatrics preferred.- Possess at least five years of clinical experience with chronic care populations, including one year working with frail or elderly individuals.
- Demonstrate leadership experience in medical administration or as a medical director, with the ability to guide interdisciplinary teams.
- Skilled in comprehensive geriatric assessments and knowledgeable in chronic care best practices and geriatric issues.
- Excellent communication skills, including public speaking and leading educational programs or group presentations.
- Proven ability to build effective relationships with healthcare providers and contribute to a team-oriented environment.
- Physically capable of meeting the demands of a clinical setting, including sustained activity, visual acuity, and effective verbal communication.
- Must meet all regulatory requirements, including immunizations, medical clearance, valid PA driver’s license, and passing a physical exam.
