Production Manager – Raw Pet Food Manufacturing

Job Overview:
Hoosier Processing, LLC (DBA Albright’s Raw Pet Food) is seeking a Production Manager to oversee all aspects of raw pet food manufacturing, including cold storage management, raw material handling, production scheduling, packaging, and shipping. This role is responsible for ensuring efficient, high-quality, and food-safe production operations while maintaining compliance with industry standards and company policies. Opportunity to quickly move up to an Asst. General Management position.
Key Responsibilities:
Production & Operations Management:
- Oversee daily production processes, ensuring efficiency, accuracy, and adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Develop and maintain production schedules to meet demand while minimizing waste and downtime.
- Manage cold storage operations, including inventory tracking of raw materials and finished products.
- Ensure First-In, First-Out (FIFO) principles are followed for ingredient and product rotation.
- Implement Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma principles to optimize workflows and reduce inefficiencies.
- Coordinate with procurement and logistics teams to ensure raw materials are available and finished products are shipped on time.
- Work closely with quality assurance to uphold food safety and product consistency.
- Oversee operation and maintenance of clip packing machines, grinders, and commercial food processing equipment.
Team Leadership & Training:
- Supervise and develop production staff, ensuring proper training in food safety, equipment operation, and workplace safety.
- Create and execute a cross-training plan to ensure all production team members are fully trained across all aspects of production.
- Foster a positive team culture, emphasizing communication, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Quality Control & Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with FDA, USDA, AAFCO, and GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) regulations.
- Maintain proper documentation of batch records, production logs, and food safety checks.
- Oversee sanitation and hygiene protocols for both personnel and equipment.
- Address customer complaints or product quality issues, identifying and resolving root causes.
- Strong understanding of food safety principles and food safety opening procedures is a must.
Equipment & Facility Management:
- Oversee proper operation, maintenance, and sanitation of grinders, mixers, vacuum sealers, clip packing machines, and packaging equipment.
- Work with available resources to schedule preventative maintenance and minimize downtime.
- Ensure all forklift operators are trained and certified for warehouse and production areas.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Minimum 3-5 years of production management experience (preferably in food manufacturing, meat processing, or pet food industry).
- Strong knowledge of HACCP, food safety regulations, and GMP compliance.
- Experience with Lean Six Sigma, FIFO inventory management, and cold storage operations.
- Experience with clip packing machines, grinders, and commercial food processing equipment is a plus.
- Understanding of food safety principles and food safety opening procedures is required.
- Forklift certified or willing to obtain certification.
- Ability to lead and develop a team in a fast-paced production environment.
- Strong problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, production tracking software, and Excel is a plus.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs and work in cold storage/freezer environments as needed.
