Summary
The Albuquerque Academy Charger Aquatics program is seeking an individual for the position of Assistant Coach. Part-time and full-time available. This position is responsible for serving as a lead coach for up to two groups as assigned by the Head Coach. They will also serve as senior assistant, providing coverage when needed. Essential Functions
- Act as the lead coach for up to two practice groups assigned each season by the Head Coach.
- Serve as a senior assistant, providing coverage as needed and assigned by the Head Coach.
- Establish a positive practice environment, while teaching self-discipline, dedication and responsibility.
- Attend all swim meets where additional assistance is necessary according to the competition schedule set by Head Coach.
- Communicate effectively with athletes, parents, and volunteers.
- Support the School and its mission, always maintaining a high degree of professionalism.
- Foster and maintain a culture of mutual respect, equitable practice, and joy.
- Demonstrate cultural competence and communicate and collaborate effectively across differences.
Other Responsibilities
- Attend all Albuquerque Academy and Charger Aquatics employee meetings as needed.
- Perform administrative duties as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications
Education
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
Experience
- Previous Competitive Swimming experience is required, preferably under a USA Swimming club team.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Excellent human relations skills, particularly working with youth.
- Effective verbal and written communications skills.
Special Requirements
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Must be able to obtain a USA Swimming coach membership, including the Red Cross first aid and CPR/AED certification.
- Must become a member of ASCA and pursue L2 certification after 1 year (funded by CAQ).
Working Environment
- Majority of work is performed in an indoor setting at the Pool Deck or in an office.
- Work hours are variable depending on practices, administrative work needed, and time of year.
- Weekend and evening work may be required, including swim practices, swim meets, parent meetings, team banquets, and miscellaneous programming.
Physical Demands
- Standing, walking and actively coaching continuously for 2-3 hours
- Demonstrate essential swim-related movements on the pool deck and weight room
- Ability to lift and carry up to 45lbs pounds with or without assistance
- Routine office work demands such as sitting at a computer, filing, across campus walking
- Appropriate speaking volume to communicate with athletes in a noisy environment
