EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR: HIGH SCHOOL LEARNINIG

The Executive Director of High School Learning is a leader and advocate for student achievement and quality instruction in alignment with district goals / academic master plan and procedural directives. The executive director is responsible for and supports instructional projects, initiatives including the use of high quality instructional pedagogy, comprehensive professional development through advocacy, leadership, management and monitoring. Supporting the enhancement of the development of administrative leadership skills with the goal of improving teaching and learning by providing professional development, technical assistance and support for high school administrators and district personnel to impact teachers and students is a major focus of the position. Interpretation and administration of program, district and state policies and regulations as related to the administration of high school education is required in this position.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

• Provides leadership in the areas of high school curriculum, instruction and processes for high school administrators, Curriculum and Instruction staff and district staff.
• Maintains and cultivates the external and internal image of the district, its departments and its schools by working with internal district stakeholders and students / parents / community.
• Directs the development, revision and evaluation of high school curriculum (inclusive of online curriculum) following established guidelines, procedures, district direction and state standards.
• Oversees district-wide teaching and learning support for the implementation of district goals for the high school level related to all content areas (language arts, math, social studies, science, health, physical education, fine arts, career and technical education, modern, classical and native languages, and general electives).
• Oversees the adoption and alignment of high school instructional materials.
• Works with department and district employees to design, develop and implement professional development projects and programs.
• Collaborates within the department and with other departments in the use of and development of curriculum and aligned assessment materials that support academic achievement.
• Interprets and administers the policies and regulations of the district and the state with respect to the administration of high school education.
• Facilitates and / or provides facilitation direction for curriculum assistant principals at the high school curriculum board meetings.
• Supervises, manages, and participates in the planning, writing, printing and distribution of publications and other staff development and curriculum / standards informational and instructional materials for the district.
• Manages the approval system for high school courses and course numbers assigned through the student information system and the state course numbering system.
• Provides direction for district policy and implementation of scheduling, grading and transcript processes.
• Provides direction in the analysis of high school student instructional documents from out of state / out of country educational institutions.
• Coordinates the district NCAA course and school approval process.
• Assists high schools through the application process for nationally recognized accreditation.
• Collaborates with other departments regarding the instructional programs at magnet and schools of choice high schools.
• Supervises the coordination of instructional grants, with a high school component, assigned to the Curriculum & Instruction department.
• Oversees the implementation of district programs inclusive of the Advanced Placement Program, the International Baccalaureate Program, Capstone Schools, , Dual Credit and content related programs.
• Uses and maintains all types of data to oversee the review and analysis of current programs and services for continuous improvement.
• Serves as liaison between the district and local, state and federal agencies, university, colleges, the business community, parents, private / non-private schools, interested groups and / or individuals regarding secondary curriculum and instruction.
• Hires instructional and support personnel.
• Supervises and evaluates department personnel.
• Co-manages the daily operation of the department.
