What are the responsibilities and job description for the TEACHER INDIAN EDUCATION K-8 Diné SUMMER IMMERSION PROGRAM position at Albuquerque Public Schools?

Teachers will teach utilizing the curriculum and framework developed in collaboration between the UNM Diné Language
Teacher Institute and the APS Indian Education Department. Teachers will work as multi-grade teams to deploy curriculum
aligned to the Navajo Nation Department of Diné Education criteria. The program will hire teachers licensed to teacher Diné
language and/or licensed teachers enrolled in the UNM DLTI Program. All assignments will be based on student enrollment.
Serving outgoing DLL students in grades Kinder - 8th grade general education. The Indian Education K-8 Diné Summer Immersion Program is NOT based on a remediation model, but a high interest, hands-on Diné language and culture-based summer enrichment opportunity providing staff opportunity to focus on areas of knowledge of high interest and motivation to indigenous learners that may not be available to them during the school year. Teachers develop curricula that utilize Diné approaches to language and culture learning and teaching. Teachers will use teacher created materials.
Delegation Training
There will be teacher training for the curriculum prior to the start of the program. Orientation/prep & plan day is June 4, 2025. Teachers who apply for these summer job opportunities must be willing to collaborate with summer peers, design high interest, hands-on, project-based lessons for students, as well as provide differentiated activities that support the needs of individual students. Teachers must be willing to be outside during the school day and help organize extended enrichment activities based on the indigenous principles.
EDUCATION AND LICENSURE: The minimum requirements for this job are as follows:
- Current New Mexico teaching licensed Native Language and Culture (520) and/or 200, 250 or 400 license
- All teachers must have the correct license/endorsements/credentials on file with APS HR prior to working this program.
