Coordinates and provides academic instruction to newcomer summer program students (grades 6-12)
- The Newcomer Summer Program Teacher will create a flexible academic program and environment favorable to learning and personal growth by encouraging students to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed to obtain a good foundation for continuous growth and development.
- The Newcomer Summer Program Teacher should develop contextualized content-specific lessons and activities that will provide students with experiences that integrate English language development and content in a highly collaborative instructional model
- The Newcomer Summer Program Teacher will establish effective rapport with students and their parents and assist students in developing positive feelings toward themselves and others.
- The Newcomer Summer Program Teacher will collaborate with special education to develop appropriate accommodations and modifications for students based on their IEP.
- The Newcomer Summer Program Teacher will be responsible for student supervision during weekly field trips and will be responsible for their transportation to and from field trip sites
- The Newcomer Summer Program Teacher will be required to attend Professional Development sessions which will be scheduled during the work day
- The Newcomer Summer Program Teacher will collaborate with other teachers in order to develop cohesive/integrated lesson plans that foster growth
- The Newcomer Summer Program Teacher will co-facilitate daily learning circles to develop community and social- emotional wellness among students
- The Newcomer Summer Program Teacher will plan for a final project/demonstration that students will share at the end of summer family celebration day
- Other duties as assigned by the Summer Program supervisor
PREFERENCES:
- Experience with Synergy, Lesson Vue, and Common Core State Standards.
- TESOL endorsement
- Ability to plan and develop academic lessons and activities based on CCSS that integrate English language development with content material and are scaffolded and differentiated to meet the needs of newcomer English learners and SLIFE students (students with limited/interrupted formal education)
- Knowledge of and experience with providing mandated IEP and 504 program modifications and accommodations.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Flexibility, organization, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
- Interpersonal skills with diverse populations’ in-person and on the telephone.
- Knowledge of the APS community, computer system, financial procedures, and legal requirements.
- Knowledge of District policies on immunization, medication, first aid, emergencies, and child abuse/neglect.
- Knowledge of all laws, regulations, and guidelines affecting teachers and students.
- Knowledge of effective classroom management techniques.
- Ability to maintain positive relationships with students, parents, comunity members and staff.
MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS: The minimum requirements for this job are as follows:
- Bachelors degree
- Current New Mexico teaching certificate in the specified content area
- Current endorsements dependent upon specific positions may be required.
- Additional requirements may be applicable to specific positions
- We will be hiring a limited number of teachers with endorsements in secondary Math, secondary Science, secondary ELA/ELD, secondary Music and secondary Art

- Summer Program Dates (instruction): June 10 - July 18, 2025
- Daily schedule: Monday - Friday from 8:00 am - 3:00 pm with a 30-minute lunch break
All schools closed 6/19, 6/27, 6/30, 7/3, 7/4Holiday.
