Zion Lutheran Church in Kent, Washington is looking to hire a part-time Music Coordinator. The Music Coordinator will collaborate with our pastoral staff to create regular and special worship services, choosing and integrating hymns, anthems, and instrumental music as appropriate to the church season and sermons.
This individual will oversee all aspects of the music program, play the piano or pipe organ for a single Sunday morning worship service, conduct our adult choir, and foster vibrant children and youth music activities. The Director will lead the congregation in song, encouraging enthusiasm for worship, music formation, and building community.
The ability to play and blend other instruments and more contemporary music into services is desired along with a willingness to develop and build a new music ministry. Salary and contractual responsibilities are negotiable.
Music Coordination Duties and Responsibilities :
- Collaborate with the Worship & Music Committee and Pastor to create and lead well-planned and engaging Sunday music services.
- Select a variety of quality, appropriate church music for traditional and contemporary worship service styles.
- Work with Pastor and Worship and Music Committee and other paid or volunteer musicians to develop and / or implement liturgies throughout the year.
- Submit annual budget requests for equipment, music, and licenses to the Worship & Music Committee.
- Encourage church members to share their musical gifts with the congregation and coordinate their inclusion in worship services.
- Serve as primary point of contact for Sound and Video Technicians for scheduling, service changes, and substitute technicians.
- Serve as pianist or (pipe) organist for a weekly Sunday morning service.
- Serve as pianist or organist for weddings and funerals as requested, except when not available for the desired date / time. Additional compensation is provided.
- Direct the adult choir in its rehearsals, Sunday performances, and any agreed-upon special events or worship services. The adult choir normally participates in worship services at least once a month.
