ACCOUNTING MANAGER

Reports to: Varies
Status: Regular, Full-time, Exempt
Location: Anchorage, AK

JOB SUMMARY: This position prepares reports and statistics reflecting financial performance, profits, cash balances, or other financial results. Is responsible for ensuring entries are coded properly in accordance with GAAP and FAR 31 standards.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Performs duties and responsibilities with integrity and in a professional, fair, open-minded, ethical, and timely manner.
• Performs prompt recording of the accounts receivable and postings to and closing the related general ledgers monthly.
• Posts, verifies, and reconciles accounts payable, accounts receivable, expenses, payroll, and/or other ledger accounts.
• Performs posting of cash receipts, expenses, or other transactions to journals or ledgers and verifies accuracy.
• Establishes internal controls and guidelines for accounting transactions and budget preparation.
• Reviews and posts monthly journal entries, cash receipts, and revenue.
• Coordinates with outside auditors and provides needed information for the annual external audits.
• Assists with merger and acquisition activities as needed.
• Assist on closing other general ledgers in preparation for the monthly, quarterly, and year-end consolidation schedules.
• Provides financial analysis with an emphasis on capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations.
• Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

• Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements, and projections.
• Ability to meet deadlines.
• Ability to maintain attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to prioritize multiple projects while maintaining required schedules. 
• Knowledge of federal and state financial regulations. 
• Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
• Knowledge of general ledger and is familiar with financial statement consolidation. 
• Demonstrated ability in general accounting, financial government accounting and audit principles, procedures, and techniques.
• Knowledge of financial and accounting software applications. 
• Professional intrapersonal and interpersonal skills. 
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software; with an emphasis on Excel. 
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Thorough understanding of generally accepted auditing standards.
• Thorough understanding of methods of systems analysis and the principles, design, and procedural methods used in computer and database development.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

1. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field; OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
2. Five (5) years of professional accounting experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

1. Working with Cost Point and Sage Intacct.
2. Working in government contracting and construction EAC’s analysis.
3. Working with Alaska Native Corporations (ANC’s).
