JOB ANNOUNCEMENT
Position: Family Advocate and Outreach Specialist
Location: Anchorage, Alaska
Reports to: APIA Family Advocacy Center Program Coordinator
Work Schedule: Full-Time – 37.5 hour per week
Salary: $25.46-27.84 DOE
Job Summary:
This is a full-time position working out of the office in Anchorage, Alaska. Must be willing to travel to the region and trainings frequently. The Family Advocate and Outreach Specialist functions as a point of contact for children and families that are victims of crime; will provide support and child-friendly services, assisting families through the investigation process of child abuse or other crimes. The Family Advocate and Outreach Specialist will use approved curriculums materials to present to the public and schools; will conduct community outreach and education on services; collect family history and demographic information; provide direct and individualized child and family assessments.
Qualifications:
Required: A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Be willing to participate in education and training if no degree is in place at the time of the interview. Experience: Two (2) years related experience in providing services for children and families.
Must:
- Be willing and able to travel to the region extensively and on short notice.
- Demonstrate the ability to work well with people; understanding of social and cultural needs; the ability to interact positively with individuals from various backgrounds.
- Demonstrate the ability to be non-judgmental while working with families in crisis.
- Possess a high level of computer skills; strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to write reports, business correspondence, procedure manuals, and effectively present information; and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
- Demonstrated ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.
- Ability to develop community partnerships benefitting clients and the Family Advocacy Center program services.
- Ability to be innovative, creative, and positive; develop and provide training to staff and community members; conduct community outreach.
- Demonstrate dependability, maturity, and good judgment in performance of duties.
- Be able to work independently with little supervision as a vital and productive team member.
